Man I always imagined, Megatron was alone for so long which caused him to be angry, confused, sad, depressed, and vengeful. He once had someone who he sees as a father and a mentor (Terminus) and now since he is long gone, Megatron had to suffer endlessly which made him mad.

I really enjoy fic authors trying to explore TFA Megatron, making him more than just an evil irredeemable bastard, but understandably a tragic character. It also shows that the "Good Guy" Autobots populating Cybertron are not as noble as they claim to be
