We are shocked at the scale of mockery & gaslighting during the student senate meeting on March 5, 2025. In a council, where Hindus have NO representation, three UC Berkeley Student Senators targeted the independent Student Senator who had sponsored the proclamation. 2/n

Senator Justin Taylor — who graciously offered to provide our community representation in a forum where it has none — was bullied by senators who chose to make choking gestures and accusations of walking “up and around and moving his arms.” 3/n

The intent of the proclamation was strictly to celebrate Hindu heritage. Yet A Senator chose to politicize it into a discussion on Indian politics! She even ignored the many local sponsors, including a local temple founded/run by a family from Fiji. 4/n

Not surprisingly, as a student senator, moved to kill the Hindu Heritage Month proclamation, she quoted "Hindus For Human Rights," an organization where a substantial portion of its leadership team is non-Hindu, but which still claims to represent and speak for Hindus. 5/n

So why are we talking about this now? Student senate meetings are recorded with replays available to all. But for this particular meeting, the publicly accessible recording mysteriously disappeared (during student elections) even as all other recordings remained. 6/n

The horrific video excerpts shared, do not do justice to the atmosphere that prevailed. For the Hindu students present, the hate & tension were tangible. Our young members -part of the @UCBerkeley CYAN chapter, are still traumatized. 7/n

Echoing Senator Justin Taylor, we demand a more liberal accepting campus that values its minorities -HINDUS included and does not attack them for being different @UCBerkeley Stop the #Hinduphobia 8/n

This woke girl is exactly the type that USAID et al used to pick up and fund. You can bet she’s working to get on the same track using the fashionable new trend of hinduphobia.

What these kids are doing is not only shameful but also disgusting. They exhibit ignorance and stupidity. What is Hindu nationalism to do with Hindus in US? Hindus in India are patriotic just the way citizens of every country. Their hate towards another religion is disgraceful.
