Open Range is so much better than I remembered. I wrote about this earlier this week after just learning about Robert Duvall’s passing, but I just gave this a rewatch today & Duvall & Kevin Costner are perfect casting together. The filmmaking here is exceptional. Duvall thrives.

Billy Bob Thornton was on with Rich Eisen today talking Robert Duvall & I’m not kidding in the slightest when I say this interview helped me cope with Duvall’s passing. I didn’t realize Thornton & Duvall made multiple films together, like here in Sling Blade. It’s a great listen.

Robert Duvall earned an #Oscar nomination for The Apostle & it’s one of the best performances of Duvall’s entire career. I think this entire movie is incredibly underrated because the story here is really simple but really interesting. Duvall does everything right in this film.

Robert Duvall’s work in The Apostle has been at the front of my mind the last few days after I rewatched this on Tuesday. I honestly forgot that Duvall not only starred in this movie, but directed it. This is an insanely entertaining story about redemption & finding yourself.

Tender Mercies won Robert Duvall his only #Oscar. This movie means so much to me because of Duvall’s performance. He’s brilliant. Duvall cuts open his heart & lays it on the table for the audience to see. He could not be better in this film. Duvall cared. He will be missed. RIP.

Robert Duvall earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his work in A Civil Action back in 1998. I really enjoy this movie. A Civil Action isn’t perfect but there are so many excellent actors in this film, none better than Duvall. A truly fantastic legal thriller.

Robert Duvall won his only Oscar for Tender Mercies & he deserved every ounce of gold from the Academy. I have a hard time talking about Tender Mercies because Duvall is so powerful & so emotional. It’s just one of those performances that reminds you what it means to be an actor.

Robert De Niro & Robert Duvall starred in the 1981 film True Confessions together & if you haven’t seen this yet, I think now’s the time. The two play brothers- De Niro a priest, Duvall a detective. It’s a quality crime thriller that I’m thankful got made. These two are great.

Lonesome Dove might be the best limited series ever made. Robert Duvall & Tommy Lee Jones are historically great in this series. This aired in 1989 but still holds up so well- it’s a timeless Western epic. Duvall is right in the middle of his prime here. One of the best ever.
