It’s really sad what TikTok is turning into. Every day I open the app hoping to see creative content, news, current affairs, or even the galamsey videos that usually dominate my FYP, and instead I’m being served livestreams of people doing the most suggestive things imaginable just to collect gifts and make money. Before anyone says “the algorithm is showing you what you watch”, no. I don’t watch that content. I don’t follow those people. I don’t go looking for it. So why is it constantly finding its way onto my FYP? What worries me isn’t even me. It’s the kids on the app. Social media has become a place where children and teenagers watch adults being rewarded with views, attention, followers, gifts and money for increasingly sexualized content. Whether people like it or not, young people learn from what they constantly see being promoted. And that’s my issue. We have platforms specifically meant for adult content. Why should a mainstream app used by millions of young people be allowing this kind of nonsense to flourish? Why wait until an account becomes huge before taking action? Why allow livestreams to continue when it’s obvious what they’re doing? The excuse can’t always be “we’re moderating.” At some point people have to ask whether enough is actually being done. This morning I opened TikTok looking for content to post about galamsey. Instead, this is what appeared on my screen. Honestly, it’s getting ridiculous.

POV: You’re on the highest Caribbean mountaintop and the drums just hit different. This is the first drop of Neon Pony LIVE in St. Maarten! I don’t just show up with a USB. It’s full send it mode with Live drums, percussion. and vocals. There is no safety net. If something breaks or I’m late on a cue, you see it. I give all of me on the dance floor, then break it all down and load it out. In this case, that meant strapping the whole rig to a ski lift and riding it up & down the mountain. It’s hard. It’s raw. And I wouldn’t trade it for anything. This is what I do. Ride with me!

The neighbor hired a company to remove their tree, they even have a 55ft bucket lift, and the workers seem to know what they are doing. Until you see they tied a small rope to the tree, they assure you it will pull the tree the other way and they’ve don’t it many times before. Now you use a tree in the middle of your living room, and the company is claiming it was an act of god, are they still responsible?
