Introducing AI Browser Games! Watch open & closed models build small browser games head to head. Open models like Kimi K2.7 were faster, cheaper, & produced games similar to Opus 4.8. In some cases, open models were ~20x cheaper than closed ones too!

Is compute scarcity masking the real economics of AI? interesting point from Peter Fenton: open-weight models are still complex to run well. For now, the big labs have the bundle: model + compute + reliability + access... and thus pricing power. But if compute supply loosens and open model tooling gets easier, routine AI work can more easily move to cheaper/open models.

Your gas isn't cheaper. Your groceries aren't cheaper. We don't have to live this way.

BREAKING: Only ~1% of Bending Spoons’ AI requests & tokens goes to frontier models. 99% runs on self-hosted open-weight models. CEO Luca Ferrari on the shift to Sovereign AI: “We end up using open-weight models we self-host, so these are basically free. I mean, there is a little bit of cloud cost, but for 99% of the requests and tokens.” “And the frontier models, generally closed weight, through APIs for maybe 1% of the requests, only for the most complex tasks.” “Sometimes we use them automatically to check the work that got done by the slightly less intelligent models, as a more senior engineer would with a more junior engineer.”

the market has evolved and Kimi K3 is bullish for the infrastructure layer "There’ll be an interesting, almost thermonuclear battle to provide the compute to support the demand that’s emerging for open weight models" -Benchmark's Peter Fenton Deepseek 1.5 yrs ago made everyone question how much compute AI would actually need. K3 points the other way -- cheaper, open models mean wider distribution, more usage, more inference

$NVDA CEO Jensen Huang says Wall Street misunderstood DeepSeek and is “misunderstanding Kimi again.” He argues open Chinese models shouldn't be banned because cheaper open models accelerate AI adoption making “free AI” bullish for chips, data centers & Nvidia’s compute demand.

Uber had a $500M Anthropic bill in a single month. Mine was over $1M. So I rented GPUs and now use open-source models. 100x cheaper. The future of AI is Open-source.

Most AI models help you work. MiniMax M2.7 helps build the next generation of AI itself. This is one of the most agentic open-weight models we’ve seen so far.

I downloaded something like 300GB of open models and wrote a bunch of map-reduce style processing scripts to make this graph. It's plotting the distribution of weight values across a variety of popular open models, to show that models are almost entirely made up of small floats.

GLM 5.2 by Z.ai is even bigger than the DeepSeek moment. In the past few months, open source AI had been quite stagnant. New releases were underwhelming and still far behind the top closed models. But GLM 5.2 is different. It gets surprisingly close to GPT and Opus-level quality, while being much cheaper and open-weight. It just gets things done with very minimal hand holding. Full review

Open weight music generation models better than Suno v5.5? 👀 YuE2-3B was just released, up to 5 minutes, rivaling Suno v5.5. Non-commercial license on models AND code which is disappointing, but sounds incredible!

Today’s a big day! We have something really exciting to share with the open-source community. We’re launching two open-weight language models: gpt-oss-120b and gpt-oss-20b. They’re incredible models, built for developers, trained for reasoning, efficiency, and real-world use.🧵
