We're releasing a preview of OpenAI o1—a new series of AI models designed to spend more time thinking before they respond. These models can reason through complex tasks and solve harder problems than previous models in science, coding, and math.

Rolling out today in ChatGPT to all Plus and Team users, and in the API for developers on tier 5.

OpenAI o1 solves a complex logic puzzle.

OpenAI o1 thinks before it answers and can produce a long internal chain-of-thought before responding to the user. o1 ranks in the 89th percentile on competitive programming questions, places among the top 500 students in the US in a qualifier for the USA Math Olympiad, and exceeds human PhD-level accuracy on a benchmark of physics, biology, and chemistry problems.

We're also releasing OpenAI o1-mini, a cost-efficient reasoning model that excels at STEM, especially math and coding.

Has science gone too far??

4o and I already reasoned and worked it out. I still have to remind him though apparently. 😂

😳

Elite performance.

is o1 any different from adding in "explain step by step"

The docs say the reasoning tokens will not be visible to us. Why not? Sometimes we need to see how it arrived at its conclusions so we can validate it.

Grok has no problem with that: Let me count the 'r's for you. Here's the breakdown: 1. s 2. t 3. r (Here's the first 'r') 4. a 5. w 6. b 7. e 8. r (Here's the second 'r') 9. r (Here's the third 'r') 10. y So, in the word "strawberry", there are **three 'r's**.
