The rebuilt Divine Mercy Church in Kelambakkam belongs to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Chingleput in Tamil Nadu. Originally a substation of the Covelong Forane, it was later bifurcated to become an independent parish in 1996 under the name Christ the Redeemer. In 1999, the parish was entrusted to the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales in perpetuum, who took up the mission of building and nurturing the community. Under the leadership of Fr. A. Edward, they constructed a parish church, school buildings, a community hall, and a boys’ home. Over time, the parish developed a strong devotion to the Divine Mercy, and this spiritual focus culminated in the construction of a new church building dedicated to the Divine Mercy. Following its dedication, the parish became known as Divine Mercy Church, reflecting both its special devotion and the identity of the new church. This grand church was made possible by the generous contributions of the faithful, including children who lovingly offered their allowances, making it a true symbol of the community’s devotion and sacrifice. Parishioners of St. Great Martyr George the Victorious parish of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in Pryiutivka say they are facing ongoing threats and attempted seizures by activists linked to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU). They recently published an appeal to international and U.S. officials, including Vice President J.D. Vance (Vice President JD Vance), for protection. This comes soon after the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in Kuzmyn sent an appeal to Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (Rep. Anna Paulina Luna). Since then, the parish has been re-registered to the OCU using falsified paperwork as parishioners allege that a local oligarch is the driving force behind the forced switch. Members of the community now worry that a forced seizure is imminent. According to the rector, the parish has no less than four of its faithful serving at the front as part of the war effort.
