NEWS: DeepMind teaches robots to play soccer. In a paper released today Google's DeepMind details how they used Deep Reinforcement Learning (Deep RL) to train low-cost, miniature humanoid robots in dynamic environments, allowing them to play a simplified one-versus-one (1v1) soccer game. The robots, equipped with 20 actuated joints, were initially trained in simulation using the MuJoCo physics engine. Through this training, they learned robust and dynamic movement skills like rapid fall recovery, walking, turning, and kicking. The robots seamlessly transitioned between these skills, even surpassing expectations, and developed a basic strategic understanding of the game. During matches, the trained robots demonstrated agile skills such as turning, kicking moving balls, and dynamic defensive blocking. They quickly combined these skills, showcasing their adaptability and outperforming scripted baselines. The robots walked faster, got up quicker, and kicked faster than their counterparts. Individual skills were first trained in isolation within the simulation environment, and then composed in a self-play setting. We drove our robots from San Francisco to New York City. Along the way we presented at Automate in Chicago, the biggest robotics convention in North America, took a ferry so our robot could see the Statue of Liberty, and wrapped up the trip with NYC’s first robot pop-up shop in SoHo. Thousands of people visited. Most had never met a robot before, and now they have. Autonomous dodging off-roads without any human presence. This is a demonstration of pushing the limits of what is possible in off-road #autonomousdriving. In this demo, we performed autonomous dodging without any human presence in our autonomous vehicle, that too off-roads. In this mode, collision avoidance against aggressive-stochastic-adversarial traffic is the sole responsibility of #AutonomousVehicles. Our autonomous vehicle, Deep Xplorer, was tasked with navigating an off-road trail, avoiding both the static and dynamic obstacles. Furthermore, team members on bikes introduced random cross-traffic interactions by cutting its path at random, creating highly adversarial and stochastic traffic scenarios. To increase the stakes even further, I personally drove our other autonomous vehicle (Xplorer), cutting the path of Deep Xplorer at random --leaving the task of negotiation, motion planning, and decision making, to ensure collision avoidance and safety of the vehicles and the environment as a sole responsibility of our autonomous driving stack in Deep Xplorer. This is the first time in the history of Swaayatt Robots that we performed autonomous dodging without human presence in our autonomous vehicle, pushing the limits of what is possible in autonomous driving landscape. #reinforcementlearning #deeplearning

SkildAI, which is developing a foundational AI model for robots, has released a new video of their humanoid robot walking over objects and exploring environments it had never seen before. The robot is using vision & adapts in real time. SkildAI: "From raw images and joint feedback, the model directly outputs low-level motor commands. SkildAI, which is developing a foundational AI model for robots, has released a new video of their humanoid robot walking over objects and exploring environments it had never seen before. The robot is using vision & adapts in real time. SkildAI: "From raw images and joint feedback, the model directly outputs low-level motor commands. This single neural network enables humanoid robots to seamlessly walk across flat ground, climb stairs, and step over obstacles without any planning, mapping, or manual switching between behaviors. For all of our testing in this video, we deployed the robot in each new environment without any prior planning or mapping. We took off the humanoid’s shoes so you can hear it.
