The UAE Search & Rescue team has deployed to one of the hardest-hit areas in Kandy — Rambuk-ela/Vilanagama in Akurana — where multiple homes were swept away by a landslide. Using specialized equipment and K9 units, the team has located 10 victims and continues search operations for the missing, working closely with Sri Lankan authorities.

On February 16, 2026, at approximately 8:50 p.m., members of Rescue Company 1, other FDNY units and our partners at the NYPD NEWS operated on the Queensboro Bridge during a confined space rescue, locating a victim approximately 50 feet inside one of the bridge’s anchorages. Through coordinated teamwork, communication, and the use of specialized rope rescue equipment, members were able to safely remove the victim from the structure. Operations like this remind us just how important continuous training and preparation is for our members, ensuring they’re ready to operate safely and effectively in complex and high-risk environments.
