🔥🚨DEVELOPING: Oprah Winfrey is under backlash after being accused of ‘stealing Whoopi Goldberg’s moment at the Oscars.’ Oscar viewers spotted a tense on-stage moment between former costars Oprah Winfrey and Whoopi Goldberg on Sunday as they paid tribute to the legendary Quincy Jones. The Color Purple co-stars came together to honor the late music producer during the 97th Academy Awardsin Los Angeles. 'Me too,' Whoopi, the breakout star of the 1985 film, added as the audience erupted in laughter and Oprah appeared less than pleased, fueling speculation about an alleged decades-long feud between the two. Whoopi was nominated for Best Actress for her role on the Color Purple, while Oprah was nominated for Best Supporting Actress. While neither won for the film, Whoopi went on to receive an Oscar in 1991 for Best Supporting Actress for her work on Ghost. The movie, based on the Alice Walker novel, was nominated for 11 Academy Awards at the 1986 ceremony. Never winning an Oscar is long believed to have irritated Winfrey, who has become one of the most successful celebrities in US history. As Goldberg was presenting the tribute Oprah jumped in and said 'He actually discovered me for the Color Purple, which was my first film,' Oprah said of the film's executive producer and composer. A TikTok user shared the exchange on the platform, saying the moment between the two screen legends was 'lowkey shady.' One commenter said: 'Oprah it's not about you tonight... thank you Whoopi.'

Oprah Winfrey reveals she goes by Oprah instead of her birth name Orpah because people kept mispronouncing it. Keke Palmer: I found out that your name… it was originally Orpah? Oprah Winfrey: It was Orpah, from the Bible. Ruth, first chapter, 14th verse. Keke Palmer: (gasps) Oprah Winfrey: You know, it’s that whole Ruth and Naomi story. And, you know, Ruth said, “Wherever thou goest, I will go,” and then Orpah said, “I’m going back. I’m sorry, I can’t…” (laughs) “…too long. The road’s too long.” Keke Palmer: Now, what made you go to Oprah? Oprah Winfrey: It’s not what made me, I was a kid! And nobody knew how to spell it. So it turned out, on my birth certificate, it’s O-R-P-A-H. And then people started calling me Oprah. And so, it’s just the difference between the “P” being before the “R” or after the “R”. So once they started with Oprah, that’s it. I didn’t learn until I was like, probably 20 or something that, “Oh, this isn’t really my name. My name is Orpah.” Keke Palmer: And it’s still on your birth certificate as Orpah? Oprah Winfrey: As Orpah. Keke Palmer: Wow. We have so much in common, because I’m actually Eeky. Oprah Winfrey: Eeky? I thought you were Lauren Keyana… Keke Palmer: (laughs) That’s stupid… Yes! You knew my middle name! Oprah Winfrey: Your middle name. Keke Palmer: That is… I’m so happy you knew that! Oprah Winfrey: You know how I know that? Keke Palmer: How? Oprah Winfrey: TED Talk!
