I love Rails and 37signals in general. "Remote" and "Rework" books changed the way I operate forever. I understand the tradeoffs they make to reduce the overall complexity of the system and how beneficial it is to productivity. But I also love the exceptional UX that modern JS frameworks and libs bring to the table. Hopefully we could get to the point where we can have amazing UX that doesn't add too much complexity in JS ecosystem and bridges the gap between the server and the client. A lot of very smart people are working on that right now and this is awesome.
