Optimus Gen 3 is Tesla’s next big humanoid robot leap. As of March 24, 2026, it’s in final stages, not fully in production yet, but Elon says it will kick off this summer. Gen 3 is taller at 5’8” and lighter at 125 pounds. Each hand with 22 degrees of freedom plus extras in the wrist/forearm, powered by 50 mini-actuators total (25 per side). They’re all tucked in the forearm to keep the hands light, so there aren’t bulky motors in the fingers. Gen 3 will grip eggs without smashing them, fold laundry smooth and sort minuet parts. Gen3 will walk faster too, up to 8 miles an hour using those upgraded legs and runs on Tesla’s AI-five chip. It has Grok onboard for natural conversion, “hey, grab that box.” The battery lasts about 8 hours, and lifts 150 pounds with ease. The first units are rolling out this summer, internal use only, for a slow testing and learning process. Sales will begin in 2027, if all goes smoothly. ✨
