#PickettFire UPDATE: Thanks to the hard work being put in by firefighters, we now have 5% containment on this fire. Another flight from Intel 12 has been ordered to map the fire and provide updated acreage, which will be forthcoming. A priority Friday has been the dozer work on the right flank, an area that's seen active fire. The 15 assigned dozers are greatly aiding in establishing control lines and providing access. They are being supported by aerial firefighting operations to tie in the control lines from Rattlesnake Ridge wrapping around to Sugarloaf Mountain to protect communities that lie further to the east.

Full suppression tactics are being used, including firing Ops to box the fire in, which also reduces exposure for resources in the steeps. A community meeting will be held tomorrow in Payson to update the local residents on the fire. It is suspected to be human caused and an investigation continues. SW Area IMT 1 will assume command of the fire. Thanks to the subscriber who shared this breathtaking view of the Horton Fire. 🙏 The fire was mapped at 1,074 acres.

Command of the Hazen Fire has been transferred to AZDFFM this evening on May 2. The fire is burning in salt cedar in the Gila River bottom to the east of State Highway 85, south of W. Hazen Rd. Current size is estimated at 273 acres and is 0% contained. The east side of the fire is holding along power line road with the north end actively burning. Flame lengths as high as 30 feet have been observed. Resources on scene include engines from multiple fire departments and miscellaneous overhead from DFFM. Additional resources have been ordered to include dozers and Type 2 handcrews. Closures: A road closure is in place on Highway 85. Follow Az and check AZ511 for current updates. The Lee Fire in Colorado is a monster, now 58,700+ acres. This fire in Rio Blanco county has caused the closure of Highway 64 this afternoon from county road 7 to county road 5. The fire continues to make large wind fueled runs. The fire also jumped Highway 13 but aviation was able to keep it in check. Crews and fire managers continue to try and slow the progress of the fire before it impacts Meeker, Colorado. Current temps are 90 degrees with 16MPH winds. The Library Fire in the area of the Reagan Library in Simi Valley has been mapped at 8.6 acres. The road to leading to the Reagan Library has now been re-opened. The fire was initially reported at 1:38pm, and approximately 70 firefighters were dispatched to the incident. Multiple units have been now been released from the fire, but some firefighters will be remaining on scene for the next few hours mopping up hot spots and reinforcing control lines. VCFD’s UAS (drone) operators are on scene and surveying the fire footprint from the air to ensure all hotspots are identified and fully extinguished by ground crews. There were no injuries reported, no structures damaged or threatened and no evacuation orders issued. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Resources made some good progess on building an initial anchor point to build off of for future shifts. Air support helped with bucket drops until weather picked up and were unable to continue in the afternoon. The fire is located in Buck Basin 4 to 5 miles northwest of the Currant Creek Reservoir. Red Creek Mountain Road FS080 and Low Pass Road FS106 are closed to the public at this time. Resources on scene: two engines, two Type 2 crews, two Type 1 helicopters, scoopers, water tender and a grader will be assisting the operations today. The cause of the fire has been determined as lightning. Crews were in the area today working on the northern section of the fire. At this time, there are no reported threats to structures or communities. Smoke is visible from Highway 35 and 40 and surrounding area please do not report.
