Last week, I sat through a three-hour-long committee meeting listening to Oregon bureaucrats talk about all their priorities and how they want to spend your money. One of their top priorities? Getting Oregonians to drive electric cars and spending their money on electric chargers. Tens of millions of your tax dollars are spent every year to subsidize EVs and their charging networks. $70 MILLION for Pete’s sake. This is just one slide and one program - you know there’s more. Budgets are about priorities, and it's clear what Kotek and the Democrats' priorities are. When Kotek says Republicans don't have solutions for ODOT funding, she's either lying or needs to fire her Comms team, as they apparently don’t watch the news. All we had were solutions. She just didn’t like them. She'll say anything so she doesn't have to defend her misplaced priorities of funding EV subsidies over basic road maintenance, like plowing and paving. She'd rather raise your taxes than make hard decisions about her own priorities. Good thing it looks like Oregonians will have the final say on that.

The budget grew roughly 4% over last year and nearly 60% over the last decade, yet Beacon Hill politicians still act like government is being starved of resources. Included in the budget were more taxpayer-funded earmarks, expanded rental assistance spending, funding for advocacy organizations, and amendments weakening oversight requirements for public benefits. Meanwhile, taxpayers are struggling with out of control housing costs, ever increasing energy bills, and local tax overrides because of Beacon Hill's chronic underfunding of local aid to cities and towns. We applaud Governor Hochul for calling for strong, consistent online safety protections in New York and for outlining sensible priorities for legislation. Several of the Governor’s priorities, including default-off settings for minors and parental controls, are safeguards we have already implemented on Roblox. Another, advanced age verification, is currently being rolled out globally. Estimating the age of users who want to communicate on Roblox helps limit kids to chatting with other kids, not unknown adults by default. We also go further in key areas of online safety. For example, we do not allow users to send each other images or videos on our platform. This work is ongoing, and we know no system is perfect, so we continue to strengthen protections to help keep users safe, as well as working to educate parents about online safety. While the legislative process is just beginning in New York, we are supportive of the Governor’s online safety initiative and the priorities she has outlined. We look forward to reviewing the details of the proposal and working collaboratively on these efforts to make the digital world safer for children.
