New England Patriots OL Coach Doug Marrone - Position Coach Goals - To take the player to a level where he cannot take himself. - To create a confident player. - The player must feel technically sound. - The player must feel that he has an edge. (Find It!!) - If a player loses a Pass Rush, 99% of the time he must feel that it was due to a technical issue and it is easily correctable.

Former Florida State OC/OL coach Alex Atkins - Gallop Technique - Why = Move people & stay square. We Gallop 3 techniques but never 2i's. - When = Front side of gap schemes, back side of zone. - Awareness = Understand leverage of LB we are working to. Is the 3 tech tight or loose? Steps - 1st step must gain ground at angle. - 2nd step is gather step. Must get it down before I get to the hip. - 3rd step has to be in the ground before contact. Aiming Point - Aim for the hip of the defender. - Want lead foot to be inside the near foot of the defender. - Lead knee to graze the knee of the inside leg of the defender. - LB aiming point = Cut LB in half. Can't get undercut, U out if LB is fast flowing over top. Hands - Low & ready to strike hip of the defender. - Ready to turn into down block if DL spikes out. Run Counter Bundle = 60% Off

John Benton – Offensive Line Coach - Seattle Seahawks The goal isn’t to pick a side. It’s to take the defender off the ball. Benton breaks down the steer drill, focusing on aiming points, hip movement, hand placement, and driving the defender vertically upfield. Strike with your hands, forehead, or shoulders. Keep your pad level low, extend your arms, and keep your feet driving. Check out Benton’s presentation below.

These two clips are VERY telling on this season and how we're going to have to evaluate it - especially for the offensive line. The 1st clip (1st drive) - Proctor misses the T/E twist and Malik Willis escapes the pocket and scrambles for a 1st down. The 2nd clip (2nd drive) - Proctor sees the exact same stunt, learns quickly from his mistake and Willis holds onto it to take the sack. So you have a negative graded play for the OL on the 1st play, but it gains yards and a positive graded play for the 2nd play, but it results in a sack. This is why the film is SO important.

D-Line Press to Scoop Drill - The press to scoop drill is designed for defensive linemen to handle situations where they encounter a double team combo or a zone block. - When positioned on the backside of a play, the player must work to press the scoop as flat as possible against the line of scrimmage. - It is critical to get hands on the offensive player to prevent them from getting a free release to the second level of the defense. - Players are coached to keep their inside arm long, strong, and fully locked out while adjusting their position during the play. - To maintain power and leverage, the defensive lineman should work to get their inside leg up, utilizing a same hand and same foot technique. - If two blockers remain on the defensive lineman, another defender is free; once one blocker leaves, the lineman must be prepared to come off the block and make the play. Rice OL coach Sanders Davis - Teaching Independent Hands in Pass Protection Outside Hand - Used for initial strike. Should often be involved in the punch. - Aiming point is far pec/logo. Used to put force through the outside half of the defender so he can't turn your body. - Should not stretch out & open your chest vs a wide rush. Punch presented surface. Inside Hand - Used to prevent inside move + provide secondary support if outside hand gets swatted. Provides control vs bull rush. - Should not punch across midline w/ inside hand (stay square). - If defender gives chest, take chest w/ both hands. - Use defender's pads/arm for a surface to lift + control.

KIDS: Every level you go up, the less likely you are to see a player try to beat a defender 1v1. Why? The higher the level you play, the less likely you are to beat a defender 1v1. Defensemen are too good. They are faster, smarter, close quicker, and there’s less time and space to even try to attempt it. If you want to play at higher levels of hockey, beating defenders down the ice 1v1 is not what is going to get you there. Developing your hockey sense by using your teammates and understanding how plays develop…that’s what translates to the next level. Check out Matt Barzal on this play. It’s 3v3 overtime so he has plenty of time and space to beat the defender up the ice 1v1, especially with his elite skillset. But no. He brings the puck to the middle, uses his situational skating to protect it, and bides time for his teammates to get open. And once Horvat does get open – he hits him for the overtime winner. 1v1 hockey does not translate to the next level. Hockey sense and awareness does. I’ve seen so many kids that were bigger and faster than everyone at young ages be rewarded for taking the puck end to end and scoring. That gets you wins at young ages, but it does not make smart hockey players. Because when everyone else catches up physically, if that player wasn’t taught the right way to play…they will get passed by. Smart hockey players make it to higher levels. Fast players who do not know how to use their teammates do not. Coaches, please coach accordingly.

These plays on Lebron are utterly ridiculous. I’m in awe of Kobe’s scoring skill/ability. Pay attention PLEASE to the details. People fall in love with Kobe’s game because of the level of difficulty he had to endure as a guard, always having to score on the teams BEST defender and usually a TALLER defender. He’s not a Forward, so getting easy looks in his era was rare. Let’s take these shots over Lebron, a great defender in his prime. Kobe makes these shots over him and they require so much skill considering Lebron is Bigger, taller and stronger. ONLY skill will allow you to win in this situation, and that’s the beauty of Kobe’s game. This is why he’s respected by Bron and all the other players as a GOAT scorer and GOAT skilled player. 🐍 x 👑 2 legendary players

If the Wolves were able to have a cap space team (maybe Brooklyn or Chicago) absorb Julius Randle's contract next season ($33M), that would open up three interesting roster building tools I want to highlight. I think this is relevant because the Wolves front office has a history of kind of stringing together transactions -- even over the course of multiple transaction windows (offseason and trade deadline). The Randle trade would be Randle + draft compensation for say Brooklyn to absorb the contract - maybe: Randle + No. 28 for a future 2nd (Adjust compensation as you see fit. Not the point of this exercise. Obviously if this would cost a bunch, they wouldn't do it. Or maybe they'd have to move to using Gobert's salary as the salary moved into another team's cap space.) Shedding Randle's salary would drop the Wolves well below the *1st* apron (about $52M). And while beneath the 1st apron, the Wolves would open up the ability to three additional roster building tools for spending that $52M... (If Ayo Dosunmu were to sign for $17M, that would be $35M in room below the 1st apron. And need to make sure to get the roster to 14 players.) 1. The non-taxpayer midlevel exception ($15M) - The "big MLE" is a $15M gift card for teams to spend above the salary cap but below the 1st apron. So if the Wolves were to use this, they would be hard-capped at the 1st apron ($13M below 2nd apron). If a team is over the 1st apron, they only have access to the taxpayer or "mini MLE", which is $6M next season - Could go out and sign a free agent for up to $15M in starting salary - Could also use this $15M as a trade exception and trade for a player who makes up to $15M 2. The trade exception generated in the Mike Conley salary dump trade to Chicago ($10.77M) - A trade exception allows a team to trade for a player without sending back matching salary for up to the amount of the trade exception - So with access to this trade exception, the Wolves could trade for a player making up to $10.77M - Using a trade exception also hard caps a team at the 1st apron ($13M below 2nd apron) 3. Making a Randle trade to a team who absorbs his contract into cap space would also create another trade exception (up to $33M) - The size of that trade exception would be Randle's $33M, minus whatever the Wolves took back in the trade - Might not need that for spending this summer. But doesn't expire for 365 days. The downside of working below the 1st apron as opposed to the 2nd apron is it restricts overall spending power by $13M -- because that's the gap between the two aprons.

Next best C available according to NXN’s 2027 Top 100 Rankings. (#17) 4⭐️ Isaiah Hill. (IN) 7’0 205lb. Breakdown: Arguably the best shot blocker in high school. Really long arms, times his jumps well, and always stays straight up, doesn’t lean much while blocking shots he just takes them. Hes shown the ability to hold his own on the perimeter, that length definitely helps him out, his defensive IQ is just an added bonus to an already elite defensive player. Still has a ways to go to find his offensive game, but he’s come such a long way already. Adding a mid/3p jumper, extending the defense and working on his face up/handle, his hands and footwork both need work, not a reliable post up player yet, but you’re seeing the tools and the flashes of a modern C in today’s game, if he can take those tools to the next level he becomes one of the most complete C’s in HS overall. Lots of potential here. Kentucky hosted Isaiah for an unofficial but never extended an official offer. Indiana Kid, playing for Jeff Teague at Pike HS, sounds like he’ll be staying in state. Indiana, or Purdue. (Who has a level 6 crystal ball to land him on 247) but still early, maybe an offer changes things. Isaiah Hill #BBN #KentuckyBasketball
