🐐 OTD in 2008, Messi scored his first-ever free-kick goal

and then he just never stopped, rude behaviour honestly

Every legend starts with a first one 🐐🎯 That night, goalkeepers had no idea they'd spend the next decade studying this same run-up 😅⚽

That first one is still special. Messi made free-kicks look like a normal part of the highlight reel.

Messi’s first free-kick in 2008 was the start of a remarkable journey: He went on to score over 60 direct free-kick goals in his career. His free-kick technique evolved into one of the most feared in football, with goals scored in La Liga, Champions League, Copa del Rey, and international tournaments. By the mid-2010s, Messi was considered among the greatest free-kick takers in history, rivaling legends like Juninho Pernambucano and Andrea Pirlo.
