Pierre Poilievre on Alberta separation and Alberta's treatment by Ottawa: "I'm against separation...the message to the government in Ottawa is you can't tell Alberta to pay up shut up. Albertans want to be a part of united Canada." Well balanced comments but I think people are discounting that too Albertans have heard it before and they don't want to waste any more time. Thoughts?

Quebec gets it. Bloc Québécois House Leader Christine Normandin was asked about Alberta separation and the referendum question. The reporter kept pressing. She refused the bait. Her answer was simple: She is not Albertan. Ottawa is not Albertan. Albertans decide. She even warned against “Papa Ottawa” talking down to people with disdain. For once, I agree with the Bloc. You do not have to support Alberta separation to understand the principle. If Albertans want to ask the question, it is Alberta’s question. Not Ottawa’s. Not federal politicians’. Not some managed national-unity script from people who helped create the anger in the first place.

In the room…” Yeah I get it… it’s a roast yada yada but IF You wanted a perfect opportunity to signal something without people suspecting, wouldn’t this be it? Just saying — Hhhwweeeird. Signal for an assassination attempt on Trump or very bad choice of words? Time will tell… or it won’t. But I’m just a conspiracy theorist.

The Alberta independence question is here, but the path forward is more complicated than many expected. The instinct is to move directly to a clear independence vote. But the Sylvestre decision has changed the legal landscape and created a serious risk that an immediate up-or-down vote could be challenged before Albertans ever get a final say. The goal has not changed. Alberta still needs a clear vote on a clear question. What has changed is the route to get there. A two-step process may now be the most realistic way to protect the vote, build support, and give the independence movement time to organize properly. The fight is not over. It is becoming more serious.
