An X-flare, Hurricane, and Earthquake walk into a bar.... Tropical Storm Erick intensified into a hurricane shortly after the recent powerful 1.2 X-flare from the Sun radiated the sunlit side of the Earth (which Mexico was on at the time). Then as Hurricane Erick began making landfall it triggered a magnitude 5.8 earthquake right nearby. A perfect example of the energetic connection between the Sun, our weather, and geophysical events like earthquakes.
