Sir Keir Starmer has said that the UK's relationship with China is in a "good, strong place" after holding talks with Xi Jinping in Beijing. The prime minister told the Chinese president that he wanted to build a "sophisticated relationship" with Beijing to boost the UK economy, signalling a reset after years of strained ties over spying scandals and international tensions. When two countries of this size, history, complexity, and significance rise in parallel, they inevitably interact. The key issue is how to create a stable equilibrium and transition into the next phase of balance. The prime minister made it very clear that talks with Pakistan will be only on terror.
