We don't use pronouns because of how they make us feel. We use them for clarity in communication. Language is a COMMUNAL phenomenon which REQUIRES agreement for meaning, as a part of grammar.

I don't think it's just about being different and "special." I think they want to bully people into using their made up speech because that gives them power over you. Also the "style" is just being a feminist and making yourself less feminine because men like feminine women.

It's also about control. This young woman likely felt unable to have sufficient control in her world. By making others work hard to use her 'preferred (correct) pronouns' she gains a sense of control around herself & her world. I virtually guarantee you she is diagnosed ASD.
