The operation is part of our sustained efforts to restore order, safety, and cleanliness across public spaces in Lagos. While we understand the social dimensions of street begging, the state cannot allow actions that compromise public safety or environmental order. Last night, at about 9.30pm and 12am, enforcement teams carried out a clean-up and anti-crime operation around Balogun Street by Allen Roundabout, Ikeja Underbridge by the General Hospital and Ikeja Bridge along Awolowo Way. During the operation, illegal street trading activities were dislodged and miscreants occupying these public spaces were arrested. Makeshift structures erected by traders were removed, goods displayed in violation of environmental regulations were seized, and a total of 11 suspects were apprehended. They will be charged accordingly. These operations are necessary to restore order, ensure free movement, improve public safety and prevent public infrastructure from being converted into illegal trading and criminal hideouts. We will continue sustained enforcement across the State. Public spaces are not markets and will not be allowed to degenerate into unsafe environments. #CleanerLagos #GreaterLagos

During our ongoing monitoring and enforcement patrol today, 25 beggars were arrested in Agege as part of efforts to address street begging and restore order in public spaces. The patrol team has since moved to Ketu, and as of 1200hrs, a total of 86 beggars, 9 children and 12 miscreants have been apprehended across the areas covered. Those arrested will be profiled and handed over to the appropriate government agencies for further action in line with existing laws and social intervention protocols. Yesterday, we removed illegal structures attached to a church building in Small Street during our by-law enforcement operation. Today, we returned to investigate what was happening inside the building and discovered that shops were operating from the church basement. This demonstrates the level of lawlessness and illegal occupation taking place in parts of our inner city. We will continue to act decisively to enforce by-laws, restore order, and reclaim Johannesburg precinct by precinct. No space in our city can be allowed to operate outside the law.
