Our final tribute to the Fatui Big 4. Fatui Harbingers - Godfall Protocol, from Genshin Hoyofair 2026.

Going to make a long thread for the character sheets and BTS talk real quick, starting with Arlecchino, Ronova, and the children of the Hearth.

Because we’re putting the Harbingers in these “what-if” scenarios of forcing them to go all-out and fight for their lives, we get to see a different side to Arlecchino besides her usual demeanor. Her 2nd form worked as a berserk mode that activated after she took a mortal wound.

I wanted to lean into Ronova’s original eldritch, intimidating aspect, so augmenting her “touch of death” ability with a giant clawed hand seemed to make sense. Her strikes leave clawed tears in the fabric of reality, fitting her initial appearance as a gaping rift of eyes.

Character sheets for Columbina and Asmoday Always wanted to do a fight sequence in space, Columbina’s moon goddess status and kuuvakhi powers we’ve sort of worked in as gravity-based flight and telekinesis, with her Interstellar-like time warp from in-game worked in as well.

Asmoday’s space manipulation and portals were also fun to work on and storyboard, though unfortunately this was developed before the Temple of Space update where we got to see more of her canon visuals.

Dottore and Rhine were by far the most fun characters to design, along with the concept of a summoner-type battle between their creations. This coupled with them seeing each other as intellectual peers more than enemies made their dynamic very interesting to write.

Dottore’s segment clones especially drew from a wide variety of horror media; as a (former) DBD player I felt spoiled for choice when it came to references. (bottom left guy we’ve affectionately named Kevin. After the minion.) (though he looks more like a Herman to me)

We went through several iterations of the Rhinedottir monster before settling on this kaiju-xenomorph hybrid that she pilots like an EVA unit. Several other scrapped iterations were either too complex or too grotesque for the big screen.

Character sheets for Capitano and Asmoday The GOAT makes his return in his full glory, definitely had a lot of fun working on his combat scenes. We wanted to lean into his more swordsman-like character where he doesn’t need any fancy techniques to kick ass.

*Capitano and Istaroth. The animators putting together the hand-to-hand fight choreography really did an incredible job at giving this matchup a rawer feel that set it apart from the others; hats off to them!

Real talk, it’s a small miracle that Godfall’s production went as smoothly as it did. The last time we animated an action short close to this scale we had to cut so many corners and delay the release by a month past the Hoyofair air date.

When we started production in April I was really not expecting to make it in time for the September broadcast but we somehow pulled through and put out what I think is our most visually impressive work yet.
