Security and defence, eh? Sounds like a fancy way to avoid sorting out the real problems. Just more hot air from folks who don’t know their backside from their elbow.

Oh, come off it, Priti! We all want a secure nation, but let’s not pretend that just throwing more money at defence is the answer. It’s about strategy and community too—can’t tackle issues with just a bigger budget!

A YouGov poll from 2024 (cited in Middle East Eye) revealed young people (ages 18–40) strongly oppose military service. Only 7% would volunteer for the army in a new world war, 21% would serve if conscripted, and 38% would refuse even if conscripted. Even with an imminent invasion, 30% would still refuse, posing a recruitment challenge. The UK military faces a crisis, with armed forces strength dropping nearly 32% since 2000 (from 269,000 to 183,230 by April 2024, per MoD data). Polls and discussions suggest Generation Z avoids military careers due to fear of death/injury, distrust in institutions, poor pay and conditions, and negative views of recent conflicts. It seems the government has belittled its citizens so much that no one is willing to fight for it.
