Rose if I may. My 13 year old son has a best friend whose mum died. They don’t have phones but do have laptops. My son sat all through the night online helping his friend get through the worst 24 hours of his life. Social media can be real connections for marginalized kids.

I do recognise this, your son sounds like a wonderful friend. There is good that comes from online connection - finding a tribe, democratizing media, building movements. But the algorithms can genuinely be harmful for kids too. And I welcome (thoughtful) replies you so may!

Our children’s future is at risk. Today many kids are getting addicted to social media platforms like Instagram and are being exposed to sexualized or semi-pornographic content at a very young age. This is affecting their mental health, increasing anxiety and depression, and shaping their mindset in unhealthy ways. Strict action is needed. The Government of India should enforce stronger laws to block pornography websites and regulate harmful content online. Children should not be allowed on social media before the age of 16, and strong age-verification systems must be implemented. Let’s come together as parents and citizens to demand a safer digital environment for our kids. Protect their innocence, protect their mental health, and protect the future of India’s next generation. #ProtectOurKids #SaferInternet #DigitalSafety
