It was an honour to speak at the Ai updates 2023 in the UK earlier today alongside other ministers of ICT. The summit is a gathering of global stakeholders including governments, leading AI companies, experts in research and civil society groups. As a nation of innovators and entrepreneurs, Nigeria must recognise the significance of Artificial Intelligence and the urgent need to explore and use it for the good of humanity. I would also like to thank the UK Government for inviting us to be part of the UK AI for Development Programme which will support our efforts to improve AI research and inclusive datasets. This partnership is a recognition of our commitment to the growth of AI in Nigeria as outlined in our Strategic Blueprint and evidenced by our initial launch of the National AI Research Scheme. #NigerianExcellence

I am in San Diego to accept the Esri President’s Award in recognition of Jamaica’s use of this critical platform for problem-solving, most recently in our response to Hurricane Melissa. We are also seeing how cities around the world are using GIS to solve thousands of real-world challenges and the tremendous possibilities this technology offers. Jamaica will not be left behind. We are harnessing the power of technology to drive growth and development. Our participation in the Esri User Conference is both a recognition of the progress we have made and a reaffirmation of our commitment to using innovation to improve lives across Jamaica.

This is what America and China are doing — building armies of skilled individuals. For Nigeria to compete with these great nations, we must take a page from their playbook. Scott Adams once said, “Every skill you acquire doubles your odds of success.” This is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and our Federal Ministry of Education strategy. That’s why we are aggressively reviving our technical and vocational education and training (TVET) system. We aim to equip young men and women with “life skills” that will enable them to be productive members of their communities, while also improving their employability and career opportunities. TVET is one of the cornerstones of our 6-point agenda to reform our education system. We will be creating opportunities for our young Nigerians both men and women to give them life skills to improve their employability irrespective of their level of education — from basic education to tertiary institutions. A skilled workforce is key to President Tinubu’s vision for the nation. We will also be adding to our TVET curriculum life skills in Renewable Energy (Solar), compressed natural gas (CNG) and mechanised farming to also support PBAT’s agenda of ensuring food security in our country. We are working to build a better nation for the next generation.

I joined His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama on the Thank You Tour in the Central Region. The tour culminated in a gathering at the Victoria Park in Cape Coast. It was attended by the Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Area, the president and members of the Central Regional House of Chiefs, a large retinue of Queen mothers, elders, MPs, and many others from the region. This event was an expression of gratitude to the people of the Central Region for their significant contribution to our victory in the 2024 elections. I emphasized the importance of standing firm in our collective pursuit of progress and inclusivity in governance. We also reaffirmed our commitment to equitable development rather than serving a select few. As part of this pledge, we outlined key initiatives for the Central Region, including: * Reviving the Komenda Sugar Factory to stimulate economic growth and job creation, especially for our youth. * Constructing a modern market in Mankessim to enhance trade and commerce. * Investing in major educational infrastructure to improve learning conditions and access to quality education. We remain committed to sustainable development and tangible progress for the people of the Central Region and Ghana.
