They provide Russia with everything they need to make weapons. Chinese can still say, "We don't give weapons." But they literally give Russia everything it needs to make those weapons. Therefore, I think if Russia wanted to attack NATO, they would have to ask permission in Beijing. Russia is spending everything in Ukraine to win the war. America and Europe support Ukraine with our military and financial assistance. Who is to gain from that? It is China. They can continue to build their military strength and prepare for whatever they want to achieve. And Russia is becoming more and more the junior partner in that limitless partnership.

However, we will not take part in games based on a “divide and rule” approach. As I recall, Kissinger noted that U.S. relations with Beijing and Moscow should be better than relations between Beijing and Moscow. This logic of setting countries against each other, practiced by the United States and other Western states, is well known and still in use today. It is neither our approach nor that of China.

The real danger in Canada-China trade isn’t scale. It’s over-dependence. China can buy Canadian goods, but it’s risky to let a sector or company become so dependent on the Chinese market that Beijing can use that dependence to apply political pressure. That isn’t a hypothetical. The Chinese Communist Party has a history of weaponising trade and economic ties to achieve its political objectives.

Tim Cook and Treachery for Profit A Sunday New York Times profile of outgoing Apple CEO Tim Cook implicitly confirmed his status as the preeminent member of what the Communist Chinese contemptuously call our “captured elite.” In practice, that means he and his company profited immeasurably by systematically betraying this country. Patrick McGee, the author of Apple in China, wrote: “Based on my research, I am convinced that no company has done more to enable President Xi. Since 2008, Apple has worked with suppliers to train 30 million workers, principally in China…facilitat[ing] an epic transfer of practical knowledge in how to make things to hundreds of Chinese factories.” Regretably, Cook’s treachery is not unique.
