Yesterday, Southall came together to mark 50 years since the murder of Gurdip Singh Chaggar. On 4 June 1976, Gurdip Singh Chaggar, an 18-year-old Sikh student, was stabbed to death by a racist gang in the heart of Southall, near the old Dominion Cinema. His killing became a turning point. Out of the grief and anger came the Southall Youth Movement, as a generation of young Asians stood up and said never again.
