Over 4,000 arrests have been made by the Memphis Safe Task Force and crime has literally been cut in half in fewer than 3 months. A full jail in a place like Shelby County is a necessary thing to keep crime down, and we saw the disastrous consequences after the Bail Hearing Room was created with the “Ability to Pay” Calculator. They even wore out the hinges on the jail cells putting criminals in and then releasing them back into our neighborhoods! My Memphis Safe Task Force DA Accountability Act will require DAs to certify to both Speakers and the US Attorney every time a charge stemming from Operation Viper or the Memphis Safe Task Force is downgraded or dropped. We all know the weak link in this unprecedented investment to clean up crime: our Soros-backed DA. I’ve often said our DA’s idea of getting tough on crime is longer suspended sentences. Well, turns out I’m now hearing disturbing stories about cushy plea deals with suspended sentences and dismissals coming from the DAs office. More to come on this!
