He was proposing to cut Business Tax for small businesses as well as reducing their National Insurance. It’s unfortunate that you oppose that Glynn.

The way LauraK jumps in to shut him down the minute he says something common sense that is going to be popular with electorate.

Why should BBC licence fee payers cough up £400,000 a year to pay for @bbclaurak' salary? Yet here she is moaning that the poorest workers might get paid get a few quid more an hour. We are the 5th largest economy - we can afford to treat employees decently. #bbclaurak

Tax the rich and the rich will leave. Well done, now there's no tax from the rich at all.

It’s also not said enough that some of the increased employment costs will be offset by people having more money in their pockets that may spend that in small businesses.

Funny how they never ask where the money is coming from when it is used to buy weapons and other military equipment 🤔

The more I hear Zack Polanski setting out his views, the more I realise that he is the person best equipped to deal with the dire multifaceted crisis we are facing today.

So the wealth tax proceeds will be used to lower business rates? Polanski has a million different new spending proposals and every time he’s asked how he’ll fund it he says wealth tax. How is this possible?

@ZackPolanski Keeps butting in when she thinks he isn't answering the question then tries to stop him when he directly is. Definitely no agenda there.

Always “where’s the money coming from?” when it helps us. I dunno Sharon, plenty of tax payers money going to the rich and big corporations in tax cuts, subsidising low wages, bail outs when they fail and inflated contracts gifted to donors by MPs. Maybe start there? 🤷🏻

"How are they gonna afford it?" Asks someone on around £400k a year about the idea of raising the minimum wage to £15 p/h.

He has no understanding of how things work in the real world. What would happen is that small businesses will have to raise prices and people will stop spending and the economy will collapse.

David Lee's profile picture

Those who receive the minimum wage spend in the local economy. So small businesses will benefit from the spending that is generated. We have had 40 years of tax cuts, what wonderful success that has been, not. #bbclaurak

Is there a link to a policy document / whitepaper where this is costed? He's just said that minimum wage increases will be covered by changing of business rates and reductions in NI payments. Ok, changed / reduced by how much? can we see any numbers?

@bestcanton7 Actually it's still promoting the Thatcherite myth of taxes paying for govt spending. A wealth tax doesn't give the govt a penny more to spend than it had prior to the tax. Govt spending doesn't happen the way people think it does. But he's right otherwise.

No it isn’t 🙄 Who’s deciding which business is providing a “social good”. How is the drop in business rates and NI to be funded? Councils are already on their knees, and council tax payers are already strapped. It’s so stupid.

Preedo's profile picture

He said he would "support" small businesses by reducing rates etc, making it easier to pay higher min wage..how will he fund those reductions? He'll be left with a giant hole in his budget. £12 billion won't even start to fill it in.

In messaging it’s all about context. The Republican aim is to attempt to smear and destroy the legacy of a man who served his country in matters of critical public health protection for over half a century under 7 presidents of both stripes. They are in desperate search of a boogeyman or another bullshit Benghazi in an attempt to stoke false outrage and division, and they’re prepared to attack an 85 year old retired multi award winning immunologist celebrated around the world for his outstanding work. They know it will put a target on his back and endanger his and his family’s safety, especially given the President in a callous act of spite removed his security detail. The argument is that nobody claims the 5th who is innocent, yet their own convicted criminal mob boss invoked the 5th Amendment nearly 450 times in These were the words he used to defend his use of his right to invoke it in the case against him in the probe into his organisation’s business practices. "I once asked, 'If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment? Now I know the answer to that question. When your family, your company, and all the people in your orbit have become the targets of an unfounded, politically motivated Witch Hunt supported by lawyers, prosecutors, and the Fake News Media, you have no choice. Accordingly, under the advice of my counsel and for all of the above reasons, I declined to answer the questions under the rights and privileges afforded to every citizen under the United States Constitution." Let’s take a look at the facts rather than the fiction. Thanks to Jon Lovett for the clip. 🎥 TikTok -
