“If you do too much for your children, you are increasing your self-esteem, by stealing theirs!” Such an excellent point!

If I ever said I was bored to my parents, they would give us chores to do. Needless to say I never got bored

I agree with this man. We are raising weak children. They don't have responsibility, and they're catered to. They can't problem solve, either, and they expect others to do for them.

@mollie_don We boomers certainly raised ours this way. And am proud to say my son is doing the same.

Exactly right. You have to be a parent, you can't always be your child's friend. There's time for that later. Believe me, when they get out on their own, start paying their own bills, and taxes, and get some life experience, they will thank you for it.

Absolutely. This is how I was raised and then how I raised my boys. They're successful. Never in trouble growing up, not in trouble now. Gee, it's almost like "tough love" and "discipline" actually work.

Today, my teenage son let me know that my car wouldn’t start (he starts it for me when it’s cold) so he caught a ride to school w the neighbor, and had hooked up the car battery to charge. I feel like a rockstar!

My daughter's 4th grade class did a pacer test yesterday. Apparently it's running. 3 girls went home crying after it. I was a TINY 4th grader. We did the mile run. A buddy and I decided to pace each other. We both at some point gained a lead and slowed to wait for the other. We both pushed ourselves to run it hard, but to still have something left at the end because we knew we weren't going home sick afterwards, or to the nurses office. We played alone outside all day every day. I cannot let my 10 year old daughter play outside alone. Not when there are 10 million illegal criminals with no ties to our community here. Not when the government protects them after the commit heinous crimes. Not when people get arrested for protecting each other. Not when she has had these facts hidden from her by everyone but me.
