The farmers partially buried their bodies in the river sand and later sat neck-deep in the waters of the Cauvery while raising slogans such as "Save the farmers" and "Do not construct the Mekedatu dam".

One of our successful projects in 2025 was the training of River Ura back to its natural course, enabling the resumption of rice farming at the Waga Machame Irrigation Project in Vanga Location, Lunga Lunga Sub-County, Kwale County after several years of no rice production. The project benefits 1,211 farmers and has the potential to create about 6,000 direct and indirect jobs. Through river training works, intake structures, and an extensive canal network, farmers have resumed rotational rice and maize farming—strengthening local livelihoods and contributing to reduced rice imports.

The Arati and its chants were a reflection of the deep devotion that the people of Karnataka have for Mother Cauvery. The offering extoled various qualities of Cauvery, who has nourished Karnataka for millennia. Designed by Sadhguru, the Arati was not just a visual treat but was offered as a process of cleansing the fire and water elements in one’s system—a fundamental Yogic process traditionally known as Bhuta Shuddhi.

Without this research, Canadian farmers will struggle to compete and feed our communities. Conservatives will reverse this closure and back our farmers. Today I tabled one of many petitions in the House of Commons calling on the Liberals to keep the research farm open.

In Maine, toxic "forever chemicals" known as PFAS were present in wastewater sludge spread decades ago as fertilizer. Farmers were told this fertilizer was safe to use and using it would help their local municipalities. Instead, these toxic chemicals devastated some of our family farmers and rendered farm land and products unusable. The University of Maine is now a leader in research on how to address and remove PFAS, and it is critical the federal government continue to support this work. I've secured nearly $33 million through the Agriculture Appropriations bill over the past five years for the Agricultural Research Service at the University of Maine to establish a new Center of Excellence for PFAS Solutions, and will continue working to help farmers who are facing the consequences of PFAS contamination through no fault of their own.
