But a big part of what made Slack a breakout success was business model fit. Freemium wasn’t just an acquisition tactic, it was essential to driving the revenue flywheel, viral expansion, and adoption in the enterprise. Obvious in retrospect, but controversial and against the grain of what others were doing at the time.
