Republicans are going to put forward a clean, short-term continuing resolution to create more room to move bills through regular order. I hope my Democrat colleagues resist the political temptation to shut down the government simply to appease the far-left of their base.

Last night, House Republicans agreed that we wouldn't fund DHS unless e-verify was passed because we’d have to take a vote on HR 2. Today, 11 hours later, the Continuing Resolution being considered strips mandatory e-verify and worsens our position on the border. I’m voting NO!

There is no plan to leave until we get three things done: pass a continuing resolution to keep the government open, confirm over 70 of President Trump's nominees, including Todd Blanche to be attorney general, and start the process on the Budget Resolution and reconciliation, including as much of the SAVE America Act as possible. Voter ID is common sense, we must ensure only American citizens are voting in American elections. That's What's Moving on Monday!

The short-term continuing resolution was not a gimmick or some partisan maneuver. It was a straightforward measure to keep critical services in operation while giving Congress the time we need to finish our work on appropriations bills through regular order. The way we used to do it! We didn’t have to be in the #SchumerShutdown.

I think we've all learned through history there's no political party or institution that benefits from a government shutdown. I don't know what the outcome will be in terms of a compromise. The cleaner the continuing resolution, the better. We need to move on with the business of appropriating through regular order.

Today, the King County Council in my district voted UNANIMOUSLY to approve a first of it's kind resolution to put in place strict guardrails on any taxpayer funding to DHS and ICE. This is such an important and unprecedented step to protect our community from Trump and his DHS's militarization of our cities.
