Elderly men, women, and children were subjected to brutal violence, including live firing. Dozens of protesters were taken into custody and shifted to unknown locations. For decades, the state institutions' response to peaceful demonstrations has been violence and intimidation. The forced disappearances and genocide of the Baloch people continue, and when the families and civil society protest, they are treated with cruelty, beaten, dragged, and imprisoned. Baloch masses from across Balochistan, under the banner of “Breaking Silence: Standing Against Enforced Disappearances,” are resisting state-sponsored crimes against them. In this effort, five peaceful protests have been organized in different regions of Balochistan. As part of this ongoing campaign, a peaceful protest was planned in Panjgur, where the administration and law enforcement agencies attempted to prevent people from participating. State authorities abducted a participant of protest and continue to monitor others involved in the protests. The lives of protesters are in grave danger, as they face the threat of enforced disappearances. After the protest in Panjgur, several protestors were followed and one the protestor Haseeb Baloch, a 22 years old graduate student from ARID university and a resident of Panjgur was enforcedly disappeared by Law enforcement Agencies. Previous protests were held in Karachi, Hub, Turbat, and Khuzdar, where the families of forcibly disappeared individuals registered their cases with the BYC. The BYC’s campaign against enforced disappearances, which is used as a systematic tool to escalate the Baloch genocide, continues. Unlawful Detention of BYC Leaders and Denial of Access to Families and Legal Counsel Constitute Grave Human Rights Violations On June 8th, leaders of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) were unlawfully transferred from Hudda District Prison in Quetta to the Civil Lines Police Station on a 10-day remand. Since their transfer, they have not been seen, and authorities have denied access to both their families and legal counsel. This complete lack of transparency has raised serious concerns about their safety, including fears of potential torture in custody. In response, the families of the detained leaders gathered in front of the Civil Lines Police Station to demand their legal and moral right to visit their loved ones. The Superintendent of Police informed them that no meetings would be permitted without a court order. However, even after obtaining the necessary court directives, police have continued to deny access. Only the mothers of Dr. Mahrang Baloch and Beebow Baloch have been granted brief visits, while all other family members and legal representatives remain barred. In protest against these illegal and authoritarian actions, the families have initiated a peaceful sit-in outside the Civil Lines Police Station. We urgently call on national and international human rights organizations to intervene and hold the responsible authorities accountable. The state’s unconstitutional actions and continued targeting of human rights defenders must not go unchecked.
