In 1973, a group of Arab sheikhs launched an airline and named it ‘Arabian Gulf Air’. When the Shah of Iran heard about this blatant attempt to hijack history, he immediately expelled all Arab sheikhs from Iran, then he ordered Iranian warships into position across the Persian Gulf, as this was seen as an act of war towards Iran. Within 48 hours, the airline’s name was changed to ‘Gulf Air’, and the Arab side issued an official apology to Iran.
