The briefing further highlighted that the National Socio-Economic Registry contains data on 38.7 million households, that 23 million households have updated their information under the Dynamic Registry, and that the recent recertification exercise has identified more than 3.5 million new potentially eligible families. The First Lady was also apprised of a World Bank study which found that BISP supports over 10.3 million families, covering approximately 24 per cent of Pakistani households and that for every one rupee disbursed, Rs 2.34 in real income is generated through multiplier effects in local economies. The study further found that 68 per cent of total income gains accrue to the poorest 40 per cent of households and that the programme supports 1.66 million full-time equivalent jobs. The briefing noted that economic activity generated by BISP returns an estimated Rs 174 billion annually to the national exchequer. 9th August - IDPs and Shelter Needs in Northwest and Southern #Tigray Since November 2020, a devastating in Tigray has triggered a severe humanitarian crisis in the Tigray region. According to the IOM Data Tracking Matrix (DTM), in June 2024 alone, an additional 33,100 people were displaced in the Tigray region, bringing the total number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to over 840,815 out of which over 146,893 individuals are living in collective centers or have formed informal settlements, often in harsh conditions. In the Northwestern Tigray region, where the weather can be extreme, makeshift shelters constructed with grass and other substandard materials are vulnerable to heavy rains and strong winds. These IDPs face immense challenges, including a severe lack of adequate shelter and essential non-food items (NFIs) such as cooking utensils, bedding, and hygiene kits. Despite the desperate need, assistance has been limited, leaving many without sufficient protection and support. Financial constraints have further compounded the issue, with many IDPs unable to afford rent. Consequently, they have moved from host communities into overcrowded collective centers, including schools and public buildings, where the living conditions are cramped and unsanitary. On average, more than 10 households are crammed into a single room, exacerbating the already difficult circumstances. The crisis is most acute in the Northwestern Tigray region of Northern Ethiopia, particularly in districts (woredas) like Seyemti Adiyabo, Asgede, Sheraro, and Tahtay Adiyabo. Selective outrage is killing real accountability. Why has this become the norm? Whenever serious cases emerge, the conversation quickly shifts to labels like Islamophobia or communal narratives. But what about the actual crimes? In the Nashik IT case, reports indicate planned targeting through WhatsApp groups, identifying vulnerable individuals and exploiting them. This is not random. This is organized. In Agra, a network involving multiple accused allegedly kidnapped girls, with links and funding traced beyond cities and even outside the country. More than 14 arrests have already been made. In Dehradun, a man was reportedly living under a false identity, and investigations revealed disturbing claims in chats about exploitation. These are not isolated incidents. These are serious allegations that demand strict investigation, accountability, and justice. The real question is, why are these cases not discussed with the same intensity? Why does the focus shift away from victims and facts? Crime has no religion. Impact After Term | 08 : Eye Care Camps Across Madurai Central — Taking Healthcare Closer to the People One of the most common barriers to healthcare is not the absence of medical services, but the inability of people to access them at the right time. This was especially true for senior citizens, daily wage workers, and economically vulnerable families, many of whom delayed treatment despite health concerns due to financial constraints or the fear of losing a day's income. Recognising this challenge, Dr. Dr P Thiaga Rajan (PTR), then a first-time MLA serving in the Opposition, initiated a series of eye care camps across Madurai Central with the conviction that essential healthcare should reach people where they live, rather than waiting for people to seek it out. Conducted with the support of specialist doctors, these camps helped identify vision impairments, early-stage cataracts, and other eye-related conditions, enabling timely intervention and treatment. Three major camps conducted across Arappalayam, Ellis Nagar, and Melamasi Street benefited a total of 1,281 residents. As part of the initiative, 157 beneficiaries received medicines through the camps, while 64 individuals were provided free spectacles at their doorstep. For those requiring surgery or advanced treatment, arrangements were made for admission and treatment at Madurai Rajaji Government Hospital, including transportation support and follow-up assistance. All the allegations and false narratives that have been used over the years to demarket Peter Obi are gradually being exposed for what they truly are political propaganda designed to distract Nigerians from competence, accountability, and good governance. Today, even respected northern voices and independent investigators who took time to carefully examine many of these accusations have openly clarified that several of the claims against His Excellency Peter Obi were either distorted, exaggerated, or completely false. Facts, records, and his track record in public office continue to speak louder than sponsored blackmail. From his prudent management of Anambra State resources, to his consistent advocacy for cutting the cost of governance, investing in education, supporting small businesses, and building a productive economy, Peter Obi has remained one of the few Nigerian leaders whose public and private records continue to reflect discipline, transparency, and accountability. Rather than wasting public funds on luxuries, unnecessary convoys, extravagant government spending, or personal comfort projects, he has consistently preached and practiced leadership built on sacrifice, prudence, and service to the people. This consistency is why many Nigerians across regions, tribes, and religions continue to believe in his vision for a better Nigeria. The truth will always prevail over propaganda. SHOULD GOVERNMENT BE ALLOWED TO TAKE PRIVATE PROPERTY? “People are waking up to the fact that the asset seizure tax is an elimination of private property rights, that fundamentally what you're saying [is] that private property now becomes public property. Because as soon as you give the government the right to collect your post-tax assets through a legislative vote, you are basically saying that you no longer have private property — because at any point in the future the government can vote to say I'm going to take your private property — which is different than an income tax. [An income tax] is when you earn something that you didn't have before, and they take a percentage of your earnings (of your income). The statement now is after you've made your income (it's now your private property) — they can come and take it. And so that is a distinction that has never existed in the United States. And I will make the retort right now to property tax, because people always say to me: ‘what about property tax?’ A property tax is a service fee on a particular, specific asset. The money that is collected provides services for that asset to make it more valuable. So you get roads, infrastructure, policing, fire, schools… All the stuff that comes with property tax makes that property [more valuable]. And you have the option at any point you want to sell that property and stop paying that property tax. You have the option at any point to downgrade your property and get a cheaper property and pay [a lower tax]. And here's the other important point about property tax: it’s uniform. Uniform means that everyone pays the same percentage, the same property tax rate in a county. This asset seizure tax that's being proposed is a demographic tax — meaning that the state or the legislature defines a specific group of individuals (in this case, they're saying anyone with a net worth over a billion dollars) and then they can go and take assets from only that group. That is nonuniform taxation. It means that for the first time we're saying based on the demographics of a person meaning whatever you want to use to define that person (in this case their wealth) — you are going to be treated differently. And that is different than an income tax, because remember when you have graduated income tax rates (and you say high earners get taxed more) — what you're taxing is the earnings, not the individual. You're not looking through to the individual to determine whether or not they're wealthy. All you're doing is looking at the independent earnings amount that's coming in. And so a uniformity clause is supposed to protect people from being demographically discriminated against. And you may roll your hand and be like: ‘Oh, who cares about the billionaires? Eat the rich. SHOULD GOVERNMENT BE ALLOWED TO TAKE PRIVATE PROPERTY? “People are waking up to the fact that the asset seizure tax is an elimination of private property rights, that fundamentally what you're saying [is] that private property now becomes public property. Because as soon as you give the government the right to collect your post-tax assets through a legislative vote, you are basically saying that you no longer have private property — because at any point in the future the government can vote to say I'm going to take your private property — which is different than an income tax. [An income tax] is when you earn something that you didn't have before, and they take a percentage of your earnings (of your income). The statement now is after you've made your income (it's now your private property) — they can come and take it. And so that is a distinction that has never existed in the United States. And I will make the retort right now to property tax, because people always say to me: ‘what about property tax?’ A property tax is a service fee on a particular, specific asset. The money that is collected provides services for that asset to make it more valuable. So you get roads, infrastructure, policing, fire, schools… All the stuff that comes with property tax makes that property [more valuable]. And you have the option at any point you want to sell that property and stop paying that property tax. You have the option at any point to downgrade your property and get a cheaper property and pay [a lower tax]. And here's the other important point about property tax: it’s uniform. Uniform means that everyone pays the same percentage, the same property tax rate in a county. This asset seizure tax that's being proposed is a demographic tax — meaning that the state or the legislature defines a specific group of individuals (in this case, they're saying anyone with a net worth over a billion dollars) and then they can go and take assets from only that group. That is nonuniform taxation. It means that for the first time we're saying based on the demographics of a person meaning whatever you want to use to define that person (in this case their wealth) — you are going to be treated differently. And that is different than an income tax, because remember when you have graduated income tax rates (and you say high earners get taxed more) — what you're taxing is the earnings, not the individual. You're not looking through to the individual to determine whether or not they're wealthy. All you're doing is looking at the independent earnings amount that's coming in. And so a uniformity clause is supposed to protect people from being demographically discriminated against. And you may roll your hand and be like: ‘Oh, who cares about the billionaires? Eat the rich.
