On Palm Sunday the holiest day of the Christian calendar, the beginning of the week that 2.4 billion Christians consider the most sacred in human history — Israeli police physically blocked Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, from entering the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Turned back at gunpoint of Israeli ethnosupremacy on the most important Sunday in Christianity. The Latin Patriarchate confirmed it in writing: “For the first time in centuries, the Heads of the Church were prevented from celebrating the Palm Sunday Mass at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, this incident is a grave precedent and disregards the sensibilities of billions of people around the world.” The caliph al-Hakim destroyed it in 1009 and it was rebuilt. Saladin took Jerusalem in 1187 and still gave it back to the Christians within three years. Built by Constantine the Great in 335 AD, this is the site where billions of Christians believe Jesus was crucified, buried and rose from the dead — the single most sacred physical location in the entire Christian world and it took the State of Israel in 2026 to bar its own Patriarch from walking through its doors on Palm Sunday. What the Persians, the Crusaders, Saladin and the Ottomans never did Netanyahu’s thugs masquerading as police did this morning. Macron condemned it as joining “a worrying series of violations of the status of holy sites in Jerusalem.” Meloni called it an offence “against every community that recognises religious freedom.” Italy summoned the Israeli ambassador to Rome. And yet somehow we are supposed to accept the narrative that the greatest persecutors of Christians across the Holy Land, Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon and Syria… is Iran. The Christian population of the Holy Land has collapsed under Israeli occupation from 20% in 1948 to barely 2% today, driven out by land confiscation, persecution, checkpoints, demolished churches and the slow suffocation of a people in their own ancestral home. Cardinal Pizzaballa himself said it with quiet devastation this afternoon: “This absence is not merely a matter of formalities. It is the war (that Israel launched) that has interrupted our festive journey, making even the simple joy of following our King difficult.” The Third Temple cult blocked the tomb of Christ on Palm Sunday. If you needed one image to understand what this war is really about that’s it!
