Last year on International Women's Day, Lama Jamous the youngest Palestinian reporter in Gaza, sent us this video to translate while she was still in Gaza. Today, one year later, the message is still the same: Where's the solidarity with Palestinian women? Why are days that are meant to uplift and celebrate women never center women who are suffering under colonialist mindsets? Palestinian women are the backbone of Palestinian society and are the essential glue that holds Palestine together. Palestinian women are the reason why generations of Palestinians never forgot about Palestine. Palestinian women are the reason why literacy and education rates are so high among Palestinians everywhere including those in the diaspora. So instead of having days that simply act as placeholders, those who believe in liberation of both men and women should look upon the stories of women fighting occupation as inspiration to fight the systems that keep them oppressed.
