Palm oil is quietly replacing dairy fat in chocolate, biscuits, and processed dairy products across the UK — while British milk production sits at a surplus and some farmers are pouring milk away.

I was in the supermarket the other day. Bread, any baked goods, and majority of processed foods - palm oil. Even “good” chocolate! I was shocked. I now check every label and if it contains palm oil, I don’t buy it. Its decreased my shopping list.

It irks me no end that no one seems to care about the massive environmental impact of palm oil. Huge swathes of pristine jungle, gone, orangutans gone. It has no place being eaten by humans. I f'ing hate palm oil.

Please Farmers advertise locally, flyers etc, or have a pop up shop to sell direct to the public. Most of us want to support you. Many farms are not visible to the pubic so awareness needs to be made locally of each farm and what they are selling and where/how to buy direct.

I can't stomach Cadbury anymore, the rancid greasy palm oil is absolutely vile, profits before people, a glass and a half of Castrol GTX its effing toxic, and not even chocolate anymore,one of the reasons they lost the royal warrant @CadburyUK

The real cause of climate change is palm oil. They're cutting down the rain forests which are the heart and lungs of the planet to produce palm oil and gaslighting every citizen on the globe into believing that it's their fault.

I rarely eat chocolate nowadays for this very reason. But many people still do - they don't realise. We need a big campaign to raise awareness.

I started reading ingredients precisely because of palm oil. It's in so much food now that it's easier to label 'contains no Palm oil'

And Folic acid in everything, anybody would think someone is trying to get rid of us pesky eaters 😞

I have been slowly reducing what I consume for some time now because of this and general health and am pretty near to being full carnivore. Fuck the food industry and supermarkets. Full fat mince,Steak, Cheese, Milk etc all bought from local farms. This is the way IMO.

@julesserkin If only enough people knew how the production process for palm oil, was causing the demise of beautiful Orangutan animals and how bad it is for us to consume, and then rejected products containing it, they’d use dairy again to manufacture…

@LLochs85296 Just went and checked my fav Lidl 70% chocolate and it’s all palm oil free. Will be checking more products from now on.

Yes..and I won’t buy it…apart from the fact it’s not good for you. It tastes foul….but it’s just something else to harm our farmers….

We simply can't trust any of our authorities can we? 😥 Our water industry fleece us and polute our rivers, streams and sea. Or food industry poisons us with harmful synthetic additives. Our power and fuel authorities rip us off. And our govt and regulators stand by and do nowt!

Us Brits are far too passive. When Cadbury changed the recipe in Australia and New Zealand there was a huge consumer backlash and Cadbury's admitted they'd got it wrong and removed the palm oil. 👍🙂

This has, sadly, occurred for decades. Milk replaced cacao butter in chocolate bars after WWII as a cheap alternative before palm oil. Now, there's lab grown "chocolate" in most confectionary.

@SSalyers2 Dairy Farmers should organise and produce their own brand of Chocolate, I’m sure the public would support them.

Cadburys chocolate - It changed years ago - they use oils including palm oil instead of buttermilk. A chuck of chocolate never melted quickly when you ate it-now it disintegrates as soon as you eat it. It has no chocolate taste anymorez

In chocolate & on chocolate biscuits you can taste the difference & feel the difference in texture & greasiness - it's just not the same! I've started checking labels for palm oil & eat much less chocolate because of it. It's a disgrace we don't use milk. #NoFarmersNoFood

I look at the ingredients of everything I buy now....if it has palm oil in it, it goes back on the shelf.
