This morning, I conducted an unannounced inspection at Queens College, Yaba, Lagos, to assess its current infrastructure, leadership, and the welfare of the students. Upon my arrival at 7:45 AM, I was pleased to see the majority of students lining up for assembly, with both the academic and non-academic staff, including the principal, already present and ready to begin the school day. During my visit, I held separate discussions with students, teachers, and the principal to better understand their challenges and needs. It is clear that the school requires significant infrastructural improvements to adequately and safely accommodate its students and staff. Queens College, established almost 100 years ago, has long surpassed its original capacity. To ensure that our students benefit from an appropriate student-to-teacher ratio, sufficient resources, and adequate facilities for boarding and feeding, we must maintain a standard capacity across all Unity Schools and Federal Government Colleges. In line with our commitment to promoting quality assurance in education, the Federal Ministry of Education will collaborate with Principal Obabori and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to redesign, refurbish, and build new facilities at Queens College, including a library, dining areas, hostels, and classrooms. Over the next several months, I will be conducting unannounced visits to other Unity Schools and Federal Colleges. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mission for the education sector is simple: to provide better education for all. This is the goal that the Ministry and I are dedicated to achieving. 🚨BREAKING: Lake Stevens School District addresses altercations at anti-ICE walkouts, Lake Stevens Police investigate The Lake Stevens School District today released a statement on altercations that arose during student-led walkouts against ICE activity. The District in its statement “recognize and value students’ First Amendment rights and respect their ability to engage in lawful, peaceful expression” and very clearing stated that “bullying, harassment, hate, or violence in any form” will not be condoned. The Lake Stevens Police Department (LSPD) is now investigating, in accordance with district policy, incidents of “a small number of students engaged in behavior” that did not meet the District’s “expectations for safety and respect.” Over 100 students from Lake Stevens High School walked out of school on Feb. 5. Among the tensions, a fight broke out during the Feb. 5 walkout at Lundeen Park, where an 18-year-old student suffered a scratch to his face and broken glasses after attempting to stop anti-ICE student protesters from throwing water bottles at passing cars. On Feb. 6, over 100 students from Cavelero Mid High School and Lake Stevens Middle School walked out of school to protest against ICE. A vehicle, at an overrun crosswalk with protesters near 91st Avenue East and Market Place, struck one student who did not require medical attention. The District is encouraging students who experienced or are experiencing harassment or retaliation for their views to report it to a trusted adult for it to be “promptly” address. When the District became aware of plans for the walkouts, administrators focused on campus safety, continued instruction for students who remained in class, communicated with families, and coordinated with LSPD to support safety in the surrounding area. Students who left campus without authorization were marked absent in accordance with established procedures, and caregivers are notified. “We remain committed to supporting our students, listening to concerns, and working together as a community,” The District wrote. “Our shared focus must continue to be the well-being, growth, and education of every child we serve.” The Lake Stevens School Board meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. today, February 11, at the Education Service Center, 12309 22nd Street NE, in Lake Stevens. Written community comments will be accepted before 4:00 p.m. today, or community members can deliver comments in person during the meeting. Tamil Nadu has secured a major industrial investment commitment of ₹18,600 crore as Larsen & Toubro (L&T) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the State Government in the presence of Chief Minister Joseph Vijay at the Secretariat today. It is extremely unfortunate that the Hon’ble President appears to be under the misinformed impression that there has been no development for Adivasi communities in Bengal. Madam, we would like to respectfully place the facts on record: 👉 Under Lakshmir Bhandar, the monthly financial assistance for ST women has been increased by ₹500, taking the total to ₹1,700 per month (₹20,400 annually) 👉 In 2025–26, the Sikhshashree’scholarship has been provided to 1,09,272 ST students to support their education. 👉 Under the Jai Johar scheme, 2,98,315 beneficiaries are receiving a monthly pension of ₹1,000, ensuring financial security for members of the ST community. 👉 GoWB has undertaken an initiative to establish ‘Sidhu Kanu Memorial (Santali Medium) Abasik Schools’, enabling children from the ST community to pursue education in their mother tongue. 👉 Around 35,845 persons belonging to the ST community in the Jangalmahal districts are covered under the ‘West Bengal Kendu Leaves Collectors’ Social Security Scheme’, providing crucial social protection. 👉 To strengthen livelihoods of women SHG members of the LAMPS, GoWB has provided ₹30,000 assistance to each SHG in the current financial year. ₹23.80 crore has already been disbursed to 7,932 SHGs under this initiative. 👉 For the development of tribal areas, covering last-mile connectivity, drinking water and sanitation, education, health and nutrition, and preservation of cultural heritage, GoWB has undertaken works such as construction of roads, culverts and bridges; installation of hand pumps and solar-based tube wells; repair of ST hostels; construction of community halls, ICDS centres, Jaher Thans and Majhi Thans; and installation of solar street lights. A total of ₹78.94 crore has been disbursed so far for these initiatives. These are measurable, on-ground interventions aimed at ensuring dignity, opportunity, and development for Adivasi communities across Bengal.

Maharashtra Fast-Tracks Industrial Growth with Bold Reforms🚀 Chaired the Ease of Doing Business War Room Meeting in Mumbai today, reaffirming Maharashtra’s commitment to remain the top destination for foreign direct investment and to swiftly convert these investments into thriving industries. Directed the administration to reduce the number of permissions required, ensuring that new entrepreneurs save valuable time and resources. To strengthen investor confidence, the Urban Development Department has been tasked with developing an AI-driven online system for building construction permissions. Under this model, once applications are submitted as per norms, documents will be verified automatically, and permissions granted seamlessly, eliminating delays and ensuring speed. Further reforms include the creation of a single-window mechanism for industrial approvals, exemption of multiple permissions for industries under the green pollution category for a specified period, and decentralising many permissions to the district level for faster processing. These measures will significantly cut red tape and simplify compliance. By eliminating obstacles and creating a truly industry-friendly ecosystem, Maharashtra is building an environment where entrepreneurs can focus on innovation and growth rather than navigating bureaucracy. I FIND GREATER BUSHENYI TO BE INCREDIBLE! KAMPALA SACCOS MAY WANT TO MAKE STUDY TOURS HERE Over this Easter holiday in Bushenyi, I was hoping to find some time to write a more formal piece on law. Instead, as you can see in these clips, Kabagareme, the booming Saturday meat market got in the way. You will never find a better meal, a better price and the extra satisfaction of actually supporting the local people’s “hustle” Deeply satisfying on all fronts. Kabagarame is yet another example of the high levels of civic awareness and organization of the people here. Apart from always being well represented in National since independence, Bushenyi has achieved social-economic transformation through embracing formal education very early on. It’s not uncommon to find families with three generations of university graduates here unlike almost anywhere else in Uganda. Most 50-60 year old Ugandans are one generation removed from peasantry. And, I think that Bushenyi’s case is not the case of the “diploma disease” that afflicts Uganda, generally. There’s a big difference between papers and an education. The former, I hear, you can buy at Nasser road, the latter, you cannot. It must translate in the way you think and live. The people here for example, organized their land holding as early as the 1960s when most land here got surveyed and titled. Elsewhere, land fragmentation, disorder, disputes and violence still block economic progress. Access to credit for example, is much easier when you have titled land. The per capita income here is even by visual estimation only, high. Generally, every household has a combination of any of the following crops; coffee, tea and bananas or all three. They will generally keep at least a few crossbred cows. Each of those is a cash crop in its own right. I have never seen a grass thatched house here. Especially tea factories dot the magically beautiful green hills along with several schools whose performance in the National exam, a National obsession, is among the very best in the country. The stretch between Kyamuhunga and Kasese covering the present day Rubirizi and Bunyarunguru districts is perhaps, the most beautiful part of Uganda. It spots the beautiful magical twin crater lakes of Kyema and Kamweru (“Africa”), the Kazinga channel, lakes Edward and George. One can have the breathtaking, sweeping panoramic views of Queen Elizabeth National park, Mountain Rwenzori, and all aforesaid lakes, atop the West arm of the great East Africa rift valley. There are so many hotels in Bunyaruguru of which Kyangabi Crater Resort has always been my favorite. Although, it has to be said, the views are at King Fisher Lodge. The big revelation to me this holiday however is how well the SACCOS here seem to be doing. I took interest in taking a closer look at upcountry SACCOS from my friend Muhimbise Atiki and Kakande Alex ‘s recent analysis of Y-SAVE’s no dividend in two years situation. From anecdotal evidence, the biggest SACCOS here include Kyamuhunga, Mushanga and Muhame. At least two of these SACCOS have a loan portfolio of ugx. 50BN each! Today, one declared and gave dividends. SACCOS might be the local solution that has been brewing to building local capital. SACCOS might also finally break the back of the trust deficit and therefore high risk that underbelly Uganda borrowing resulting in high interest rates. Kampala SACCOS may, after putting down The Intelligent Investor, need to come here for a practical education. There’s a lot to admire and learn.

Despite extensive discussions with various governmental authorities, including the County Commissioner, Education and Security teams and MP for Nyali, the entrenched old board has adamantly refused to sign the Consent form which is crucial for withdrawing the legal battle from court and allowing the duly elected board to take over. The deplorable state of its facilities has not only eroded the physical infrastructure but has also given rise to serious health issues among its students. From filthy kitchens to decrepit classrooms and bathrooms - the conditions are nothing short of appalling. The canteen, where children should receive nourishment is instead a breeding ground for illness. It's no wonder students suffer from urinary tract infections and other health problems given the lack of basic sanitation and hygiene. "Teaching here has become increasingly difficult.
