Fairfax County Public Schools School Board in Virginia voted 8-1 to make Veterans Day a regular school day for the 2026-2027 school year It will no longer be a holiday for students This same board did not vote to eliminate Indigenous Peoples’ Day as a holiday They say the change was made to reduce the number of disrupted school weeks and to give families more consistent 5 day instructional weeks Sure….. because 1 day off for Veteran’s Day is a problem….. With Saudi national day around the corner, many from amongst the ignorant will be saying things such as “Wahhabis are against mawlid but not against Saudi national day” To that I say, let’s see what the scholars say about celebrating such events (video below from the late sheikh saleh al Luhaidan, May Allah have mercy on him) Whether it’s national days, independence days, birthdays, mothers days, fathers days, valentines days, etc None of these annual celebrations are from the customs of a Muslim and therefore a Muslim shouldn’t celebrate them When Mecca was conquered, there was no annual “independence day” or “liberation day” When the rashidun caliphate was established there was no annual day to celebrate its establishment The Muslim celebrates *annually* what Allah has legislated (Eid al fitr, Eid al adha), and he leaves off everything else And Allah knows best
