Good morning everyone. For just about 6 years now I've been working full-time with Thomas Frank for the "Thomas Frank" and "Thomas Frank Explains" channels - and have loved my time. I consider Thomas one of my best friends and am very blessed to have someone like him in my life - but as of now, I am officially looking for my next full-time job. Tom and I will still be working together until the end of August (unless I find my next job sooner) so until then, I will be exploring my options and seeing where my next endeavor can be. I've been thinking a lot about what I want to do next and while I still love Video Editing, I would like to consider bigger roles - such as being a Video Producer since I have an understanding of all aspects of production, or maybe management. Those aren't the only roles I would like to explore - just ones that "feel right". It's also important to me to feel I am "growing" in my field or helping a company grow, rather than just maintain what's there. It's part of why I love working with team Thomas Frank, we always have goals. Whether that's producing better content, better organization in Notion, creating "Thomas Frank Explains" (which I am so proud of given how many people love our Notion videos), creating Flylighter - it's always exciting to see what we can do by taking risks and even if I am no longer helping Tom's growth, I can't wait to see what they cook up moving forward. The primary objective of this post is to persuade you to like and follow my YouTube Channel. Currently, I have 999,000 subscribers, and I’d like to get to a million before I launch the first episode of People You Should Know. As you may have heard, people have begging me for several years to reboot Returning the Favor, ever since Facebook canceled it after a hundred episodes, (and right after it won an Emmy!) Unfortunately, that title belongs to Facebook, but the business of celebrating regular people with bottom-up solutions does not. Hence, a new show on YouTube called People You Should Know, which I think everyone on this page will love. Assuming of course, you're not opposed to watching it on YouTube. To make the process of liking and subscribing to my YouTube Channel as easy as possible, I’m including a link to a short video that shows me making Austin Boedeker’s mother cry. Who is Austin Boedeker, you ask? I’ll tell you. Austin Boedeker is the son of a farmer in Ohio who applied for a work ethic scholarship from my foundation a year ago. His application was perfect. His references were great, his answers to my many questions were stellar, and his video was spot on. He also agreed with every single tenet in my SWEAT Pledge and signed it with great enthusiasm. So, I gave Austin some money to pursue a career in modern agriculture and wished him well. A few months ago, I caught up with Austin while filming in Ohio, not far from where he lives. I asked him to stop by the set to say hello and give us a progress report. I thought it might be helpful for people to see exactly what kind of qualities we're attempting to reward with our scholarship program. Austin brought his family with him, so I took the opportunity to grill him in front of his father, on camera. Then, I made his mother cry by doing something I had not intended to do when I showed up for work that day. The secondary objective of this post is to persuade you to share it with every mother you know. (Or better yet, with everyone you know who ever had a mother.) Doing so may or may not lead to more weeping, but it will definitely encourage more people like Austin to apply for one of our work ethic scholarships. Steve Jobs gave a 15-minute speech at Stanford in 2005 that still changes lives today: "Today I want to tell you three stories from my life. That's it. No big deal. Just three stories." Story 1: Connecting the dots "I dropped out of Reed College after the first 6 months. I couldn't see the value in it. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, and here I was spending all of the money my parents had saved their entire life. So I decided to drop out and trust that it would all work out. It was pretty scary at the time, but looking back, it was one of the best decisions I ever made." Steve shares what happened next: "Because I had dropped out, I decided to take a calligraphy class. I learned about serif and sans-serif typefaces, about varying the space between letter combinations, about what makes great typography great. None of this had even a hope of any practical application in my life. But ten years later, when we were designing the first Macintosh, it all came back to me. It was the first computer with beautiful typography." He reflects: "You can't connect the dots looking forward. You can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something: your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart, even when it leads you off the well-worn path." Story 2: Love and loss "At 30, I got fired from Apple, the company I started. What had been the focus of my entire adult life was gone. It was devastating. I was a very public failure, and I even thought about running away from the valley." Steve explains what saved him: "But something slowly began to dawn on me, I still loved what I did. The turn of events at Apple had not changed that one bit. I had been rejected, but I was still in love. And so I decided to start over." He shares what came next: "Getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again. During the next five years, I started NeXT, started Pixar, and fell in love with an amazing woman who would become my wife. I'm pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn't been fired from Apple." His advice: "Your work is going to fill a large part of your life. The only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle." Story 3: Death "When I was 17, I read a quote: 'If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you'll most certainly be right.' Since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: 'If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?' And whenever the answer has been 'No' for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something." Steve shares why death is such a powerful tool: "Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most important tool I've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Almost everything, all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure, these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart." He concludes: "Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary." His final words: "Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish."

Time for a bounce house update. After some quick bookings right when I got started, messages/interest slowed waaaay down. Not going to lie, I wondered if I made a mistake buying them. To be fair, I wasn't putting any effort in. Wyatt | Local Business Growth and I had been talking for a while, and I decided to give him a chance and he quickly built a website, and got it ranking with his local SEO magic. He's been great to work with, even though I haven't given him much to work with (no gbp yet), and since the site has been live, bookings have started rolling in. Getting him onboard made all the difference. We've got 2 next week, and 2 the week after. As I've had reps, I've gotten faster at setup and especially takedown. Still, I've realized this business isn't for me. We'll get our money back, and I do want to buy one more, an obstacle course inflatable, so we'll have to keep the rentals coming in for a while. And even after everything is paid off, I probably won't turn down rental opportunities (I'm sure every Memorial Day and 4th of July will be booked), but it's just a little fun money side-hustle. Residential small ticket is hard. Everyone wants to ask about lowering prices, and then there's lots of logistics (figuring out setup time, pickup time, party ended early and they want to know if we can get there quicker, etc.). All for an average rental of $300. Which is still amazing for very little work, but it doesn't feel worth the hassle or worth trying to grow. The best part is how much my kids love them. I thought they'd be tired of them by now, but they love them. The inflatables have been worth it for that alone. We usually setup one a week and leave it in our backyard for 2 days before putting it away.

Johnny Cash is estimated to have written and co-written more than 1,000 songs during his lifetime. He was one of the most prolific artists of all time. In an interview in 1993, Cash talked about his process and how he'd increase the probability of being able to write a song: “Songwriting is a very strange thing, as far as I'm concerned,” Cash said. “It's not something where I can say, 'Next Tuesday morning, I'm gonna sit down and write a song.' I can't do that. No way. But if I say, 'Next Tuesday morning, I'm gonna go to the country and take a walk in the woods,' then the probability is that next Tuesday night, I can write a song. You know, creative people have to be fed from the divine source. I do. I have to get fed. I have to get filled up in order to pour out. I really have to.” Takeaway 1: During a live Q&A, the neuroscientist Andrew Huberman was asked, What is the best way to foster creativity and inspiration in your life? “The best way to foster creativity and inspiration," Huberman replied, "is what is actually called Strummer's Law.” Strummer's Law is named after the Clash's Joe Strummer, who said, “No input, no output.” If you don't fill up, as Cash put it, you can't pour out. Takeaway 2: It's important to point out that when Johnny Cash was in the act of trying to increase the probability of being able to write a song, to the outside observer, it would have looked like he wasn't really doing anything. Taking a walk in the woods, to the outside observer, doesn't appear as productive as, for instance, sitting at a desk in front of a computer. The fact that the best way to foster creativity and inspiration involves doing things that appear like doing nothing can be problematic. Some people (myself included) feel anxious or lazy or that they are procrastinating when they are not visibly and actively working. Or, as Morgan Housel has written, “Tell your boss you found a trick that will make you more creative and productive, and they'll ask what you’re waiting for. Tell them that your trick is taking a 90-minute walk in the middle of the day, and they'll say no, you need to work.” The most creative and prolific prioritize both. Like Cash, they carve out time to fill up (e.g. taking long walks) and to pour out (e.g. sitting down to write). - - - “Ultimately, the way to come up with new ideas is to collect the raw materials of experience, and then to give ourselves periods of doing nothing, which gives those raw materials the opportunity to marinate and combine and geyser up in whatever ways are unique to you.” — Andrew Huberman Follow Billy Oppenheimer for more content like this!

Cold approaching and IG closing a Swedish model: Opening vibe is great. Assertive, uninhibited, curious tone. The way he asks his question has more power than people’s statements. “How tall are you” “Where are you from” Very basic questions but good energy. Next thread: “You model right?” “Definitely” Lots of people might think this is “simping” but no. The way the thread is transitioned - “Well nice to meet you I’m UV” and doesn’t linger is great. (There was a cut in the clip so we can only assume lol) Signals that his question is more curiosity connected to her height rather than pedestalization (I think he is a model too). Continues assertion. “EMMA” voice spike no need. “Let me see the eyes” - good instruction. Issue assertiveness when you have good compliance, which he has. Otherwise your assertiveness will be a minus rather than a plus. Guessing game comes next. The premise is good as it’s a fun encouragement for investment, rather than simply answering. But doesn’t work great as he’s repeating himself. Neutral. Afterwards Repeats the introduction. Symptom of nervousness and perhaps why his vibe is always “on”. Notice he’s excitable throughout most of the interaction. Maybe that’s how he is, but can come across performative if overdone. That kind of energy is actually a superpower to have, but when you can’t mellow out in balance, It doesn’t feel real. More so like a presentation. And then he prematurely closes IG for coffee. No reason to do that. Is it possible that he could get her out? Yeah if good text game/IG/attraction. Now maybe there was more to the conversation that was clipped out, But on the merits of what was visible, it is less likely. Lots left on the table: Rapport, knowing her more (blueprint), emotional resonance, romantic intrigue, evaluations etc. She was most excited at the start - great beginning but no follow through. But by the end of it she could have taken or left it.

EXCLUSIVE: Canada Pauses Deportation of Trucker Jaskirat Sidhu, Who Killed 16 and Injured 13 Chris Joseph, father of Jaxon Joseph, whose life was lost along with 15 others in the Humboldt Broncos tragedy, says he will not stop his quest for justice and his fight to have the man responsible for the tragedy deported back to India, which was part of his sentence. “I honestly do feel like my son Jaxon would be right behind me saying, ‘Go get him, Dad,’” Joseph says, promising he will not stop until Jaskirat Sidhu is deported, after a federal court paused the deportation at the eleventh hour, when Sidhu was scheduled to be deported the next business day. “Being deported back to India, although not anybody’s favourite choice, is not a death sentence,” Joseph, the former NHL hockey player, says. “What we have is a death sentence,” he adds, pointing out that the last time he ran his fingers through his son’s hair was in a morgue. Joseph says Sidhu was ordered deported by everyone: the judge, the Immigration and Refugee Board, the Court of Appeal, and the CBSA, yet he is still fighting on humanitarian grounds to avoid being separated from his family in Canada. “His family can go to India with him. If my wife or I were deported, we’d be at each other’s side,” Joseph says, adding that forgiveness is irrelevant. “Deportation was part of his sentence. Forgiveness doesn’t mean he gets to be more special than any other criminal,” he says, emphasizing that people are deported every day for much less. I was very sad to read of the passing of Prunella Scales. She was a close friend of my father, Terence Frisby - she appeared in lots of his plays and sitcoms - and I met her many times, including several encounters during her latter years when she was afflicted with dementia. I even sat next to her on Christmas Eve at Midnight Mass in Southwark Cathedral not four years ago. She was always very kind and generous to me. My thesis at university (I read drama at Manchester) was on Fawlty Towers - for which I got a First (had to get that in there) - and she granted me the most brilliant, perspicacious interview. If I can find it, I will post it online because it is such a valuable resource for any student of comedy. Probably because of her downmarket Sybil Fawlty persona, many do not realise what a grand dame she actually was in real life. Quite the woman of the theatre. When I was starting out in the business, if she was appearing anywhere, Dad would take me, saying, “watch her work”. I remember seeing a production of a play called The Mother Tongue in Greenwich in 1992 and when we went for a drink after, she completely shunned have bizchat with Dad in favour of me, putting her arm around me, listening to my stories of drama school and making me feel like the most special person in the world. Dad got quite jealous. Of course, she was a wonderful comedienne. Dad always regarded It’s All Right If I Do It as one of his best plays, though it did not match the success of There’s A Girl In My Soup - in fact it bombed after a notorious first night, one of many plays to fail at The Mermaid, apparently. I never saw it, but the poster was always there on the wall of Dad’s flat with Prunella Scales boldly touted in the lead role, along with John Stride. I must have gazed at the poster a million times. He always sighed at how good she was in the part. She was also brilliant in his 1975 sitcom, Lucky Feller, about two cockney brothers in south-east London trying to make their way in life. One of them was played by David Jason. And David Jason drove a funny car. Uncanny, isn’t it? Pru played a randy West Country farmer’s wife (pictured above), who hasn’t been in touched by her husband in years. I found the episode on my computer, and it’s a gem. 25 minutes of classic English 1970s sitcom, which you have (almost certainly) never seen before. I urge you to watch the full 25 minutes. You will thank me. (I can't seem to put the whole thing on here so I will link to it in the next tweet) But here is a little 90-second exchange between her and David Jason. Enjoy

I think it’s time to talk about it 🙂‍↕️ I was delaying it because the scene messed me up in every possible way. From the moment he entered the room panting in anger, to the moment he subconsciously hid her behind his back to protect her when he heard the Kordağlıs were coming. When he entered the room like that (and he even knocked, but… since when does Serhat knock? 🌚), he scared her, because a part of her knew exactly how crazy this would make him. Because despite everything he did, despite the divorces and all the silence, she always knew he cared. And hell… he DID 😭 Serhat shouting “You can’t marry” in the same place where he once told her “It’s your life, I’m not responsible for it”??? C I N E M A! Yıldız gasping, crying, trying to catch her breath while arguing… #BiranDamlaYılmaz , you did NOT have to be this perfect 😭 When she said “Bir kere sen çıldır, yeter,” she was at her limit. There was that tiny second of silence while she was desperately gasping, and he just looked at her, helpless, not knowing how to save both of them from this mess. Y: You gave up on me. Everyone can now unfollow The Daily Northwestern, they got their traction, got their head on a stake. Let’s be patient and see how all the sources check out when everything comes out. From what I can see, the primary source: A kid with a documented and recorded vendetta admitting to exaggerating details with the goal of getting Fitz fired, then all those spited who piled on, some who have shown previous support of Fitz and his character since they played.. In my opinion: Less than great sources. 👍🏽 I do not condone bullying or hazing of any kind, but the locker room at any level is not a perfect place, I’ll wait while you name a place that is.. That doesn’t make any of the alleged incidents, if factual, okay or free from consequence. But Friendly reminder: You can’t undo your rushed articles, and your click bait headlines that helped smear a good man. Everyone that wrote opinion pieces for attention, got their two cents in, and tweeted and piled on will think they played no part in this. The single raindrop never feels responsible for the flood, but you played your part. Let’s all be better when it comes to people’s livelihood and reputations. Leadership is being held accountable for things outside of your control. And of course, like his entire career, Fitz will handle this with the highest quality integrity and character. // a few thoughts on remote work for animators (especially important for aspiring animators) my story: let's rewind the clock back to this animation. You're looking at a very rare 17 year old gameplay prototype animation done for the next gen Prince of Persia series at the time. What crazy about this clip is that it was done by 1 animator in a couple days. I literally saw it animated from start to end with my own eyes. The animation quality in this clip is off the charts, especially when you take into account the animations being released during that era. Now imagine me, in my squeaky chair, swiveling around every few hours to feast my eyes on this animator's dual 27-inch ViewSonic CRT screens. There was an air of magic in those moments, seeing the Prince of Persia coming to life only a few meters from my desk. When I would turn back to try and resume my work, my first thoughts were always "how the heck is he animating so fast and so well!" - What's even more puzzling was how he had so much control over the 3dsmax Biped, it had NO friggen F-curves, for crying out loud! loll - who was this animator? The monitors I would stare at from my desk belonged to Emile Ghorayeb. Just search his name and you'll see his IMDB credits. He was THAT good back then so you can only imagine how insanely good he is right now! Today, he's a very good friend of mine that I love very much and we have a lot of wonderful industry related memories that we share! - why does going to the office matter? Every day going to the office, I'd be really excited to see my team and eager to see what Emile was working on! I couldn't wait to dive into my own animations, driven by the aspiration that one day, just maybe, I could reach a level of skill and finesse comparable to the incredible quality he brought to his animations. - conclusion Remote work is wonderful, don't get me wrong, it's given us all opportunities we would have never had before and I'm super grateful for it. That said, for next generation of talent that hasn't yet experienced it. Try and work from the office, if you can. In my opinion, it's the best place to learn, to get inspired and certainly the best place to make some wonderful friends that will be a part of your animation journey for life!
