Reports indicate the Omani co-pilot attacked and stabbed the Emirati captain in a suspected hijacking/crash attempt. A Russian and a Ukrainian relief pilot traveling as passengers stepped in alongside passengers to subdue the attacker, take control, and safely land the plane.
