PATCH 7 SPOILER‼️⚠️ . . . . I've just found out about non-romanced spawn Astarion's lines. The anger, the disappointment, the resignation that his karma caught up to him. This is one of Neil's best deliveries as Astarion to date, and we got it one year after release.

man i could never be evil enough to do this to him but i really love how this line feels like betrayal - he trusted tav/durge, they helped him away from repeating the cycle, all to just turn on him in the end. neil newbon i love you

I'm so unwell because when romanced, he was simply disappointed. Kinda accepted his failure for not being enough to stop them from doing this, accepting that his love wasn't enough. But spawn went out fighting, because to him it's just so UNFAIR. That his misfortunes never end.

That "you chose" is so poignant because this version of him chose to be better, to not take power for himself, and he knows Tav could have resisted.

“Maybe this is what I deserve, for all my sins, a front row seat at the end of the world” Astarion may be damaged, and he may not be a good guy, but with the gur, and throughout his questline you can see goodness in him. To me this line caps this off perfectly.

the way this goes back to that idea that no god answered him until now, through durge and their connection to bhaal, and in the worst way. the way he laughs and says “maybe this is what i deserve” like it’s some cruel joke :( actually sick and twisted
