Patient confidentiality is binary. Getting a final warning suggests previous breach as opposed to a first warning. My wife and I have worked in the NHS for a total of 60 years between us. Grace would have been a Doctor in the NHS when she qualified. So personally hurtful.

I have sat on disciplinary panels. Issue of a final warning does not necessarily imply there has been a previous transgression. It is simply that there can be no more in future.

It is normal in the nhs to go straight to final warning if dismissal deemed unsuitable. It doesn’t necessarily mean any previous breach. However I have usually known confidentiality breaches to result in dismissal and agree not to do this is hurtful and wrong.

Although the wording suggests there were previous warnings, it’s actually a disciplinary term that if the behaviour happened again it would be instant dismissal. It’s not like the sickness process where it goes through stages and warnings etc. Peace to you 🙏🏻

I’m so sorry this happened to you. In the police, a final written warning can be given for first-offence gross misconduct, ie conduct serious enough to justify (but not necessarily require) dismissal without notice. Misuse of police databases almost always leads to dismissal.

This is where ‘lumping’ the whole of the NHS together is one huge mistake. (Coming from a large ‘medical’ family) People are people, just because they have a lanyard around their neck do not bestow ‘Angel’ status! Bored,admin grade2/3 ‘tittle tattlers’ and a computer system….

NHS trusts have a privatized management suite who enjoy all the perks, and on the ground they can employ people with no ethics, to get away with whatever they like - it's their perk. The ecosystem of zero ethics. There was no deterrent to this behavior, as no regulation see.

While patients wait years for surgery and months to see a specialist, Wes Streeting and Keir Starmer are threatening to cut the number of NHS specialist doctor training jobs. Most people don’t realise this, but doctors can’t just become Consultants, Surgeons or GPs on their own. They have to get a speciality training job first. These jobs are controlled and capped by the Government. So when the Government talks about cutting speciality training jobs, what they are really talking about is cutting the number of future specialist doctors in this country. At a time when the NHS already doesn’t have enough doctors. At a time when waiting lists are in the millions. At a time when patients are waiting months just to see a specialist and years for operations. Cutting the number of specialist training jobs will not fix the NHS. It will make waiting lists longer. It will make it harder to see a doctor. It will make the NHS worse for patients. Threatening to reduce the number of future doctors while patients are already struggling to access care is not just a deliberate workforce policy decision. It is a direct threat to the NHS and to the public who rely on it, coming from a ‘Labour’ Government.
