Patient confidentiality is binary. Getting a final warning suggests previous breach as opposed to a first warning. My wife and I have worked in the NHS for a total of 60 years between us. Grace would have been a Doctor in the NHS when she qualified. So personally hurtful.

My name is Dr Chris Day. I have been fighting an NHS whistleblowing case for the last 10 years and the case is still showing no signs of being over. The London South Employment Tribunal have allowed the NHS to turn what should have been a straightforward whistleblowing case, lodged by a doctor in 2015 into a circus that is still ongoing in 2025. These antics have cost the taxpayer over a million pounds and prevented serious patient safety issues being dealt with and has also damaged other doctors' legal whistleblowing protection. The way this case has been handled has not been done in private, large numbers of NHS staff and patients have read the papers and attended my hearings At the Royal Society of Medicine, I attempted in 15 minutes to explain my 10 year jungle of a whistleblowing case which you can see clip of on the below video (full talk here). Lord Stevens, former NHS chief executive, speaks for the first time (I think?) in committee stage. A really significant intervention: —NHS should not be involved since some will receive AS motivated by non-health issues (eg financial problems or feeling like a burden) —The bill redefines the NHS Charter, in a “somewhat camouflaged” way —AS is completely different from withdrawal of treatment —If AS is part of NHS, “risks undermining the trust that people have in their clinicians” —Risks increasing pressure on people to choose AS to “protect the NHS” —Govt have been “less than forthcoming” about the future of palliative care, and have not straightforwardly answered his question from two months ago

While patients wait years for surgery and months to see a specialist, Wes Streeting and Keir Starmer are threatening to cut the number of NHS specialist doctor training jobs. Most people don’t realise this, but doctors can’t just become Consultants, Surgeons or GPs on their own. They have to get a speciality training job first. These jobs are controlled and capped by the Government. So when the Government talks about cutting speciality training jobs, what they are really talking about is cutting the number of future specialist doctors in this country. At a time when the NHS already doesn’t have enough doctors. At a time when waiting lists are in the millions. At a time when patients are waiting months just to see a specialist and years for operations. Cutting the number of specialist training jobs will not fix the NHS. It will make waiting lists longer. It will make it harder to see a doctor. It will make the NHS worse for patients. Threatening to reduce the number of future doctors while patients are already struggling to access care is not just a deliberate workforce policy decision. It is a direct threat to the NHS and to the public who rely on it, coming from a ‘Labour’ Government.
