Elon Musk does not want you to see this tweet. Short 🧵

One thing that I find both astounding and frustrating about Twitter/X is that it forces you, the consumer, to work really hard to read the people you chose to follow in the first place. This is the TikTok-ification of all social apps, including this one.

TL;DR Social followers don't matter anymore because social media CEOs like Elon try to push all users into algorithm-based feeds for business reasons (retention + $). Only a tiny percentage of a creator's followers see each piece they put out.

Conte is right that this is bad for creators (like me), but it's also perhaps even worse for readers, listeners and watchers (like you). Why? Because it means someone else is taking your tastes into their hands, saying, "I know you followed X, but I'm going to give you Y."

All that to say, I think the antidote to a lot of this is 1. Podcasting and 2. Newsletters. Both are (mostly) an algorithm-free zone. I don't have a podcast, but I do have a crazy newsletter about golf that is an idealized version of what this Twitter feed used to be.

If you have enjoyed following me on here, you probably don't see what I write as much anymore. You have probably missed out on quite a bit. If you subscribe to the newsletter, you won't miss any of it.

You don't have to read every word of the newsletter (no one does), but our creator-consumer relationship will improve. And while I have no idea if Elon doesn't want you to see this thread, I do know that he doesn't *care* if you see it, which is not what you signed up for.

@ColinandSamir I kinda just wanna listen to Jack Conte talk forever. That was so concisely put.
