One of the saddest scenes in Taxi Driver (1976) is just two people having breakfast. Travis has brought Iris to a diner because he wants to convince her to leave Sport. He expects the situation to be obvious: she is a child, Sport is exploiting her, and going home should be the easiest decision in the world. Iris does not experience it that way. She talks about Sport as if he were a boyfriend. She brings up astrology, defends him and brushes off Travis’s concern. None of this means she understands what is happening to her. It means she has already learned how to make it sound normal. That is the most disturbing part of the conversation. Iris describes exploitation using the language of love, loyalty and freedom. Then she pours sugar over her jelly. It lasts only a second, but it breaks through the whole performance. Iris may wear sunglasses, speak in street slang and insist that she can make her own decisions, but she still eats breakfast like a kid. Jodie Foster never pushes the moment. Iris is not presented as a helpless symbol waiting to be rescued. She is funny, stubborn, suspicious and sometimes more socially aware than Travis. Then a small gesture reminds you how young she really is. Travis is unusually gentle with her. He listens. He lowers his voice. He gives her money and tries, in his broken way, to offer an escape. He is also imagining himself as her savior. That is the danger underneath his concern. Travis correctly sees that Iris needs help, but he cannot help anyone without turning the situation into a story about himself. Her rescue becomes another chance for him to prove that he has a purpose. Knowing what comes later makes the quietness of the diner difficult to watch. Here, Travis looks almost capable of helping her like a normal person. Later, he enters the building with guns and leaves bodies behind him. The film never asks us to choose between the two versions of him. His concern for Iris may be genuine. So is his desire for violence. He can recognize that a child is being harmed, but he cannot imagine saving her without becoming the hero of a bloodbath. This is the weirdest war in my lifetime, and also the most dangerous. Trump has to keep oil prices down, meaning he can't make a big deal out of anything or else fear and panic would drive the markets into a depression. He has to negotiate with madmen who want to wash the world in blood (with their nukes or ours; they don't care), so normal negotiations don't work. And he has to do all that while keeping it off of Page 1 of the newspapers... and hopefully win an election too. We've never fought a war like this. Not even close.

This woman was walking down the street, a random man walked by and commented that she has pretty toes. Him saying that upset her and she confronted him about it. He claims it’s her problem if she doesn’t like to be complimented and that he wasn’t doing anything wrong. This scene feels even more tragic now going into a far darker and bloodier season. This was Viserys' final desperate attempt to reunite his family and preserve peace, and in that moment, he genuinely believed he had succeeded. Yes, he shares part of the blame for the Dance… but what makes this heartbreaking is how he is completely convinced that everything is finally held together, right before it all inevitably falls apart. Paddy Considine sold this scene perfectly, and it's IMO one of the most beautiful and wholesome moments in the entire GOT universe.

The woman tried talking to them and he brushes it off saying the dog is harmless and wouldn’t hurt anyone. If a man can become a woman simply by declaring it, then this is a woman. If he identifies as a man in his personal life and only identifies as a woman on the court, then “they” are gender fluid and you don’t get to say otherwise. And frankly it doesn’t even matter how he or she or they identifies because if there’s no difference between men and women anyway, then the women of the WNBA should have no trouble competing with Freedom regardless. And if you think this is stupid, I agree. The stupidity is the point.

So many people are telling this man that he doesn’t have control of his own dog. The way the dog disregards his commands and does what he asks shows that this isn’t going to end well for him. The man argues and says the dog obeys him most of the time. But judging by the interactions he has like this one, he is over confident. Especially with a dog who is aggressive and territorial like this one. I never understood why people want aggressive dogs they can’t control, maybe as a status symbol but this is how owners and innocent people get bit. Should owners have to show proof they can control their dog as part of ownership?

And I think that’s because there’s nothing left in him that he even wants to reclaim. He’s been worn down so completely, body and soul, that what remains isn’t hope, or regret, or longing for the past. It’s just the desire to die. There isn’t a single line of dialogue in this cutscene. And yet, through the beautiful music, the characters’ expressions, and the silence itself, you can feel every bit of their loss, their yearning, and their pain. The way this scene delivers so much emotion without relying on words is honestly incredible. For me, it’s one of the most devastating and unforgettable scenes in E33.
