New ACT candidate Paul Henry thinks US President Donald Trump is "on the cusp of barking mad". A view that will no doubt earn him the favour of his party's leader. In this interview with Stuff reporter Jenna Lynch, Mr Henry shares other views. For example- Chris Luxon would make a better PM than Winston Peters NZ's restrictive firearms laws, imposed by Jacinda Ardern in a knee jerk reaction to the Christchurch shootings, are about right. He wants the Maori seats abolished, saying the need for special Maori representation that initially underpinned their creation no longer applies. He is critical of NZ First for opposing the India Free Trade agreement, saying NZ needs such deals for its future prosperity. He also says their claims relating to immigration around the trade deal are "not accurate". He is hopeful of taking ACT from their current 7% polling to 12% by the time of the election (November). Agree or disagree with Mr Henry, he has a refreshingly forthright way of speaking. As I have said previously, IMHO he will do well for ACT as long as he gets his messaging right.

Paul Henry is getting a dream run with the msm, quite diferent to the reception Michael Laws got from them, and there’s a reason for that. Henry is an establishment player, he’s a creature made by the msm, he’s great at banter and light entertainment, but as Barry Soper and long time work college and friend Peter Williams he won’t have the chops for the hard grind and gets bored easily. He’s also best friends with John Key and being Keys man is why he’s been helicoptered in. Thats also why in his first interviews he’s attacked Winston Peters and NZ First - telling Hosking : “We cannot have a strong NZ First - these people are bad for NZ” and “Winston Peters is a traitor to NZ” all the while Henry pushes for the sell out disgraceful India FTA. Peter thinks while Paul is a great broadcaster, Paul isn’t a team player, he has a huge ego and gets bored easily and it’s inevitable he’ll fall out with Seymour. He’s already moving Acts policy stances around re gun licensing reforms. Williams also opines he finds it hard that Henry will do hard graft on policy or sit in select committee’s, something even Henry admits he is not prepared to do. Act already can’t be bothered reading nation changing FTA’s with third world countries, they need some intellectual grunt, not a one liners man.
