Paul McCartney can’t read or write music. An incredibly simple 113-second display of his creative genius:

The simplicity of McCartney’s piano lesson made me think of “The Threshold Theory,” which holds that above a certain level, things like knowledge and skill do not really correlate With creativity.

The McCartney clip is from “McCartney 3, 2, 1”—highly recommend.

@RexChapman Genius is how we mere mortals quantify what Sir Paul is, and does. I think it's beyond that, in a spectrum of tones and rhythms beyond normal comprehension. How he and John Lennon found each other is almost as astonishing.

@RexChapman He hears and understands music in shapes. I’ve heard of math prodigies seeing numbers in shapes. It’s so wonderful and beyond me

Truly illustrates creativity as well as how ideas can come to life by just starting with a few basics.

@RexChapman Thank Heaven he had George Martin to write it all down!

George Martin did and you can bet he was integral to their success.

@RexChapman He’s written full on orchestral symphonies. He started out not sight reading and having his publishing company transpose. I’m sure he’s much better at it now with practice. Amazing.

Brilliance comes in many shape, colors and sizes.🎼🎤

That's a really cool video Billy. I love listening to people who are amazing at a skill explain it in a dead-simple way. Thanks for sharing.
